First Build - Need some feedback (and encouragement!)

I do love that look of the tank behind the seat, but I'm planning on having a really low hang back seat and I'm not sure if that's going to work so well with that. Will play with the notion again though if I hit my knees on the current setup. Thx K

First Build - Need some feedback (and encouragement!)

Thanks guys. Appreciate the feedback and feeling like I have some new energy ;-) Responding to a couple of things these wheels really are 27" not 700C. They are almost the same, but 27" are a bit bigger and typically come from European and Japanese bikes in the 70s and 80s. I have a really...

First Build - Need some feedback (and encouragement!)

Hi guys, So I bought a kit a while back to put on a stretch cruiser but it was just no end of struggle and in the end I don't think I could have gotten it chained up. So for an easier life I went to the parts bin and started building this. I'm at the point of overwhelm at the length of time...

    Who woodn't

Great to see this moving forward? I've been working on a design for a long time - once in a while I just work on it while watching TV trying to simplify and simplify and simplify. Are you using a coaster brake on the rear to keep things simple? K

    Why not Flip Flop Hub?

No. For a flip flop hub one side is designed for a fixed gear.. and you use that to put pressure to move forward AND brake. To keep the cog from spinning off this side has two thread areas. One for the cog and a reverse one for a fixing ring. K

    Why not Flip Flop Hub?

I'm looking at a couple of potential build projects and at the out of the box sprocket clamp / spoke hub assembly and wondering if anyone has uses a flip flop hub instead? Flip flop hub with a freewheel on one side, a large fixed sprocket on the other would be ideal.. Just not sure if you can...

Post your home made bike stands here

Hey. That's the one I saw that made me start the thread. Love it. Thinking of copying the clamp idea on a floor to ceiling mounted 4x4. Thanks for sharing. K

Post your home made bike stands here

Saw a great one posted in the "Show your workspace" thread with a pipe clamp. Would love to see some more. My first one made out of a pipe clamp and PVC stand was an utter failure. but ere's mark II made of stuff that I already had. It's: - the base of a roller stand used to catch wood as it...

    Hi from Denver

Thought I'd post some pics of new bikes in my intro. I've been buying lots of sub $50 bikes on craigslist and thriftstores. Can't help myself. I took some bits and pieces and made this cruiser to stay at my office. The rims were black alloy that I sprayed masking with straws, and the frame is...

    Street skinny cruiser thread!

Just getting this up and running as a single speed. Very much enjoying the ratty frame.

    Home made Headset Cup Remover

This is not original thinking. Various people doing it with PVC pipe and copper, but thought I'd post anyway. Why spend $27 on this: http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/TL707C03-Park+Rt-1+Headset+Cup+Remover.aspx When you can make one for $1 like this: More pics and text here...

Home made Truing stand.. yeah, another one ;-)

So I have a bunch of wheels lying around and have never trued one before, but hey, how hard can it be. I surfed the internet and found some ideas for making your own stand, and what I made is heavily influenced by a guy who used a precision meter from Harbor freight. What's DIFFERENT about this...

    Hi from Denver

Thanks. This was a really cheapo bike too, but no longer seems to be available: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001C5VU5G/?ta ... 978enouw_b It's very comfortable and doesn't feel like a sacrifice in riding conditions. K

    Hi from Denver

Hi All, When I was a kid my life was bikes, and although I've used a bike for transport ever since, it's only recently that I've been bitten by the bug of building / modifying again. It's all thanks to my girlfriend and 7 year old, who ride SOOOO SLOOOOOWLY that I simply had to get a bike for...
