1940's Huffman build-- Now named: Copper Stopper

Thanks! The wheels are just some old 24" wheels I bought from another member. I just rebuilt them with black spokes. The tires are Electra Fatti-O's. The seat is by Gyes which is an offshore knockoff of Brookes but I have to say they are pretty decent quality. Another forum member mentioned...

1940's Huffman build-- Now named: Copper Stopper

HA! Wouldn't it be funny to say I was inspired by an old refrigerator! About a block from my house there's a jeep that's this color with large black custom wheels and silver bolt heads running around the lip of the wheel (like the silver spoke nipples). First time I saw it I thought the color...

1940's Huffman build-- Now named: Copper Stopper

Deciding what I wanted for the headlights was one of the hardest things. I was in Harbor Freight Tools and they always have this pair of LED flashlights for under 5 bucks so I thought I'd give then a try. I'm considering adding a battery box with a couple of copper tubes going from the box to...

1940's Huffman build-- Now named: Copper Stopper

Re: 1940's Huffman build-- Copper Stopper (image heavy) I think it's complete for the most part. I still may add a tail light of some type. And possibly a battery box. But I think it's presentable 8) .

1940's Huffman build-- Now named: Copper Stopper

Thanks! I'm hoping to get it finished this weekend. I'm adding a light to the brace on the truss rod plus an old school leather springer seat, and also one of the head badges I posted previously.

1940's Huffman build-- Now named: Copper Stopper

Here's a closer shot of the top. I threaded the aluminum rod and ran it through a truss rod bracket that was with the frame when I bought it.

1940's Huffman build-- Now named: Copper Stopper

Finally getting to work on this one again. I tried doing an acid etched head badge using copper. Came out pretty good for my first try. I need to decide on the black background or the green patina.

TIG welding vs Silver Solder...input please?

Do a web search for a product called Alumiweld ( got mine at Harbor Freight). I used it to build up some truss rods with aluminum bar stock and it worked exactly as advertised. It's more like soldering than welding as you just need a propane torch. When I first got it I joined to pieces of...

    New Departure noise

Bigger problem I have right now is finding a lay back seatpost in 13/16. I don't have a torch or welding rig so making one myself is not possible. I've tried contacting some local frame makers but no response back from any of them yet. I may try going to the local bike salvage and see if there...

    New Departure noise

Thanks for asking. I didn't have time to mess with it much over the weekend as I spent my time adding lights to the bike. However the problem isn't happening as often now. I'll check go through this thread and do everything suggested. If it persists I'll take it to my LBS. They rebuilt the one...

Do you sharpen your drill bits?

    I think it's the XP2.

Do you sharpen your drill bits?

Yes, I sharpen mine. Makes a big difference. I use a Drill Doctor sharpener. I had to drill out a broken bolt from my military jeeps engine block once. This steel was HARD. I had two bit of the same size. I'd drill with one until it got dull (within a couple of minutes) and then swap with one...

    New Departure noise

Here's the video. It doesn't look like much but under load that little turn at the end is fairly loud and noticeable. Definitely not normal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCVj7YPMulc

    New Departure noise

Much appreciated. All of those parts I left assembled when I did the rebuild. When it pops, they all stay fixed together. I just shot I video of it. I'll post a link when I get it uploaded.

    New Departure noise

Is the cone nut you are referring to listed as part D7 on the diagrams in this thread? viewtopic.php?f=3&t=30484

    New Departure noise

It's definitely not coming from up by the crank. However when I just spun it up on the bike stand and hit the brake I saw the chain sprocket at the hub slip forward a bit when the noise occurred. So something is slipping inside and allowing the sprocket to move a tiny bit.

    New Departure noise

I've got a New Departure Model D that I recently reassembled. It works fine and brakes well however just before I come to a complete stop it makes a knock that I can hear and fell through the pedals. Any ideas?

    seat setback

I checked all the sources in the threads above and unfortunately can't find one in the right size. I need a 13/16 for my Huffman frame. The only one I found so far offering that size is out of stock and not making any right now. So If anyone knows of any sources for this size let me know. I've...

    seat setback

Thanks for all the replies. I decided to stop being so lazy and do a more extensive search.. Here are some other threads on this topic. viewtopic.php?f=34&t=59031&p=564447&hilit=1018kustoms+seat+post#p564447 http://ratrodbikes.com/forum/viewtopic. ... &sk=t&sd=a viewtopic.php?f=3&t=33980...

    seat setback

On my current build I'd like to have my seat set back more toward the rear tire. In looking at photos in the gallery it appears that in most cases this is done with a angled seatpost and the receiver hole in the seat turned 90 degrees forward. Can these seatposts be purchased somewhere or as...
