As always thanks for checking in guys and the comments.

Awesome taking mom on rides, it's really awesome that you have so many miles of trails to ride, 15 miles around here would be all on dangerous roads.
In our town we have about 5 miles of path that I can access right from my driveway. What we do frequently though is truck the bikes about 7 miles to access many miles of paths in the bigger city Wichita. Occasionally we'll ride from here into the big city but not fond of doing that. Requires riding roads with 45mph traffic.

Skipped the car/bike show this weekend and spent it with Grand-son and Wife.

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (with Mom)

I like the action shot of your grandson running out of the drainage pipe.

My son and I have been looking for a supposed large storm drain pipe that should terminate close to our house and go about 2 miles into the center of town. A guy that grew up here told me about it's existence, but we haven't found it yet. If I do I plan to walk it and check out it's safety and then ride it, then take my son. There use to be some in my hometown and as a kid going "underground" use to be the coolest thing.

The fish in the video, were those koi/carp or something else and where were they?

Ms jerrykr likes the video too!
we have a major trail about 2 miles from the house, but due to the hilly narrow streets, we usually haul the bikes to it for safety.. everyone tops those hills in their cars at about 35-40 mph. just the way it is. staying safe!

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Grand-son and Wife)

jerrykr tell Mrs jerrykr thanks :D

yoothgeye the fish are carp.
That pipe is short and just empties in to the creek on other side of what you see there. There is another smaller drainage pipe right at our yard that goes to the park park but opens into a ditch before it gets there. Surprised the kids haven't tried to take off in it. Than again it's pretty small especially at our end.

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Mom & Dad)

Rode our local rail-to-trail (16 miles) with both Mom & Dad. This was Dad's first ride in a few months as he has been recovering from a knee injury. He's now 79 years old and I notice recently he's been showing signs of his age for the first time.

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Mom & Dad)

We need an animal list from all your photos and videos, I've always wanted to see a live (wild) armadillo, we don't have them around here, and I've only seen them in Florida, but they didn't fit in the "live" category.

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Mom & Dad)

Great pics as always!!

 Yeah, I need one too

Sorry to hear about your Dad
But I'm sure that you getting them out riding (16miles  :D )
will help in ways you can't measure

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Mom & Dad)

Just noticed the timbuk2 logo on your wife's back pack. I've had a laptop bag from them that's been mistreated for about 10 years or so and still looks like the day I got it. I bought one of their wallets too. They make some good stuff.

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Mom & Dad)

Nice picture of the Armadillo
Armadillos are common here. We live near a major creek that flows into the Trinity River, so we get them digging for grubs in our yard alot (usually at night).
They have very poor eyesight, but a keen sense of smell. If you are down wind of them and quiet you can get very close to them before they notice you.
They are common road kill due to their defense reaction. If startled, they jump straight up into the air and are usually hit by the under side of your vehicle.

Hope your dad is doing well and will be riding more. Nice ride pictures!

That's good to hear.

That's interesting.

Only in more recent years I believe that the Armadillos have been showing up this far North. Only seen a couple dead ones prior to this one.
Really don't think I've seen all that many animals while riding. Off the top of my head here are the ones I don't see everyday and this includes rides away from home...
Armadillo
Porcupine
Skunk
Deer
Fox
Coyote
Moose
Groundhog
Hmm... I'm surprised I can't think of at least a few more.

Out riding with one of the Grand-sons over the weekend. Not only is he good bike rider he's also quite the musician http://youtu.be/tO8lI4Nd5Ps

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Mom & Dad)

I've got a buddy that just about made me die laughing a couple of years ago.

He's a big outdoorsman...hunter, fisher, Eagle Scout, etc. Our families rented a cabin up in Oklahoma a couple of years ago together and we all arrived just about at dusk.

He and I were unloading our vehicles when all of a sudden this Armadillo goes strolling by us. My friend sneaks over and grabs it by the tail and starts swinging it around and all of sudden the thing starts peeing all over the place like a fountain.

My friend finally let it go and we were in tears for about 10 minutes.

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Casino)

Today I had intentions of riding down to the river and soaking up some of the warmth and nature but after several miles battling a 25mph headwind I hung a left and ended up at the casino where I hung out for for a bit before turning back towards home. Didn't spot any animals.

No kickstand. Reminded me of MplsCoaster's bike in the ice.

in the dirt and in the weeds are my favorites, followed by the tree shadow!

tell Blake to keep up, every time he picks up the bow it will sound better! :D

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Casino)

OK, how long is the timer on your camera?

When we met up at Beatcad's house to hang out I set the timer on his camera, I think the options were 2 seconds, 10 seconds, and 1 minute!

OK, so 2 seconds is used to keep you from shaking the camera when you push the shutter button. 10 seconds is good for most timer shots, but for stuff like you are doing you'd have to boogie. 1 minute! That's a little too long, the camera better have an audible countdown.

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Casino)

Just wondering Randy, do you carry a bike lock in your back pack or do you just park it and leave it ? Always see you going all these places and wondered, I probably wouldnt lock my bike up running in to eat somewhere, but I would think twice about leaving a bike parked out front of a Casino

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Casino)

Really like the picture without the kickstand :D
The blue sky looks awesome and it does remind me of my shots :D

That's quite the wind!

The tire shadow pic is fantastic, on top of that, is how you cooridinated your drive through  :D

What sprocket/crank do you have on your Schwinn? How many teeth? It looks good

Did you win any money?
Steve

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Casino)

Thanks Jerry I'll tell Blake.

Thanks Skip. I almost feel guilty posting my nice weather rides after seeing yours and Steve's but it looks like you both make the best of it.

Jeremy I do generally carry a combination cable lock in my back pack. Another time when I was leaving the casino on my bike a man commented "man you must have lost everything" I say "yeah I used to drive a Cadillac before the casino opened".
Here it is locked to a handicap parking sign. They don't have bike racks.
P1090779.JPG

Steve Thanks. The front sprocket is 44t and the rear is a yellow band kickback whatever tooth count that is. I just by accident hit a good combination with it. Works great for around here. At the casino I pulled out $10 to play with and won back what I lost :D So I got out of there for just the cost of a (expensive) beer.

yoothgeye my camera just has the 2 and 10 second timer. No audible timer that I can hear so I count to myself. It generally takes me a lot of tries. I bet I look hilarious/ridiculous (more than usual).
I could just set it to record video and then capture a still from that but that's cheating.

Here's a couple failed self timer attempts...

Yesterday. Almost got it straightened out
