Greetings All!!
Ian (ifitsfreeitsforme) and I went for a quick bike ride the other day. We were on a two missions:

1)to find the grave of Charles Goodyear. He who invented Vulcanized rubber and made it possible for us to ride (semi-) comfortably around on these silly bikes we make. He is buried at the Grove Street Cemetary in New Haven, CT. http://www.grovestreetcemetery.org/ There are many many famous people buried there.

B) to see if it would be fun to have a group ride in New Haven.

We threw our bikes on the back of my car and off we went. I parked and we got on our bikes and made it to the grave.

While we sat and toasted Mr. Goodyear with a Miller, we discussed riding the streets of New Haven with 20 other guys and girls on our rat bikes. It still seemed like a good idea, but we needed to ride around a bit to explore. Off we went.

We rode by Toad’s Place http://www.toadsplace.com/, through Yale University campus

and then over to Richter’s. My absolute favorite bar ever. It’s was the old Taft Hotel Tap Room.

So after a Guinness and chatting with the cute bartender and a patron who is a bike rider too, we decided to have a go at organizing a group ride. Riding around the green will be really cool. The Yale campus is great with lots to look at architecturally and umm … well let’s put it this way: Ian fell in love 14 times. There are plenty of fine establishments for us to visit.

As a meeting point there is a parking lot pretty much in the center of Yale that would work well. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe= ... 8&t=h&z=18

The only thing Ian and I didn’t do was go here: http://www.louislunch.com/. We should try and fit that in, perhaps after the cemetery and a quick ride around Yale, Eat there and then head to Richter’s then to the Green for some fun and then Richter’s and/or any other spot to imbibe.

We have a tentative date set of October 10th meeting at the parking lot 2PM.

So there you go. A longwinded invitation to any and all who wish to take a fun and loosely scheduled bike tour of New Haven, CT. Who’s in?

we had a great time. New Haven is fantastic for cruising. Looking forward to it again. See you there.

Wish I could go! I have a soccer tournament all weekend, 2 games Sat, 2 games Sun and hopefully one on Monday. It is Columbus Day weekend. Yale will still be hopping if the weather is good cause they won't be thinking abot school work.

New Haven is a good ride, just stay within the yale mile as as I call it..anything within a mile of yale property is good..anything outside of that mile gets sketchy. You guys wanna ride I think at the end of the month .. not sure but during the summer devil gear has their last friday of the month bike mass.. those are fun, everyone meets up at the green and we ride around new haven downtown area sometimes other places..last time I went to it we ended up going to Nathan Hale .. Police escort it was lots of fun. Oct 10 is a sat. ill try my best to come out, was hoping to have my cruiser done by the first thursday for the first thursday of the month cruise but as days get shorter money gets tighter and bike is starting to look like it wont see the road till next year lol.

If you guys get a chance someday check out the Farmington Canal rail trail, its a beautiful bike run that will take you all the way south from New Haven and north to Chesire. They are pretty close to completing the last stretch with blacktop which will run from Prospect street to Goodrich and then all the way to Cornwall in Chesire which is approximately 14 miles one direction. The bike buds and I use this trail 2-3 times a week and theres plenty of places to eat, drink and be merry!!Try it on,I think you guys will really like it :)
Cheers

Excellent! We have another rider. That's four of us right now, Not including pawel since he is tentative.

I would like nothing better but that falls on a Sat and I work till 3 pm and get on the trail by 4:30.We start in Chesire and run it south to New Haven and do nite ride the trail quite a bit and also do some bar hoppin  .Not so sure you guys would be into the nite ride thing :?:If you guys could kick that ride to Sun that would be much better --start early, stay late,no pressure we'd probably even get to tour a little of New Haven, that would be a heck of a good time!!We will be doing the usual Sun run this weekend which starts at 12 noon,if anyone wants a primer ride this Sun give me a call 203-757-7800 after 7 pm is usually good.
Cheers

I am gonna try to make this.... I have my son on saturdays,,,,,Maybe he can join in as well??? I am not sure if the 4 yo can hang in NH.

Chris, as much as I would love to meet your kiddo, and I'm sure I will someday, this ride is going to be a pub cruise. But if you want to ride with him while we're in pubs, that might work.

I think I can....I think I can.......I think I can.........WOOOOOO WOOOOO!

I would try to make it but by the time I get out of work and down there it'd be dark,to bad the ride wasn't on a Sunday.Just to let you guys know they paved the last couple blocks into New Haven recently and have just to finish cut the curbing, should be done in a couple weeks I hope. This will make the trail approximately 14 miles in one direction from Cornwall Street in Chesire. We run this trail all the time and would like to hook up with you guys for a run someday soon,I think that would be a great time!!We could run the trail and then you guys show us what you know around New Haven, give me a call 203 757-7800 after 7 pm, Gary.

I've been working behind the scenes in an attempt to get the Colorflow I bought from Dan down to me. It turns out that KOTA has something for bankerrat. Bankerrat offered to meet Dan and get the frame for me. Yeshoney has something for Dan and Ian has something for Dan.

That's a whole lotta parts that need to be moved around. Since Ian and I live nearish to yeshoney, one of us will work to get that stuff for Dan. Dan, can you work to get my frame to bankerrat?

Chances this all works out - 35%

That would be great. I have wheels coming from Ian. And I need tires, handlebars, and a headbadge from Joe. If a NOS EA light falls into that pile somehow, that would be fine too. :D

I have a couple small parts that need to find their way back to Joe's place too.

Glenn, when are you going to be around?

Dan
