    Multi to Single Speed

This seems to have worked for now. I couldn't get the sprockets off, because it looks like the manufacturer used some kind of hyper-proprietary locking system to keep them on. So I straightened the chain as best I could and put it back on. The nearest bike shop is a pretty far drive away and...

    Multi to Single Speed

Ok, I'm back after another long break. My fiancee now has a bike. A troubled one. It had a weird multispeed system where the derailer was built into the tensioner, except something was broken inside of it and the chain wouldn't shift into a higher- numbered gear. I stripped it out and shortened...

    Bike for a Big Girl

Not so sure about the low gearing. I want her to be able to use it for transportation, not weight loss. Went to the best rummage sale in town, only to discover their only bike was a junked-out Schwinn with ape hangers for $95. Who pays that much?

    Bike for a Big Girl

Awright, cool. Thanks. Now to start looking for a frame and going from there. She's already said she wants hand brakes and a girl's frame, so that gives me something to work with. Maybe see if I can get a single- speed freewheel hub.

    Bike for a Big Girl

So my girlfriend kinda needs a bike- she doesn't drive but needs to be able to get around a bit better than on Shankses Mare. I was thinking a nice beach cruiser like my Eldorado, with paniers and stuff. Only catch is, she's a big girl. Around 225 pounds, but healthy. Are there any special...

    Dear Ratters,

I don't have a snow shovel, but I've got a couple of regular shovels in the garage and an ice scraper in the glove box. We're due some light flurries down where I am, but mainly light stuff that melts on contact. Just enough to slick up the roads and make people have spectacular car wrecks.

    Walnut Hulls for Paint Stripping

Anyone tried using bulk walnut hulls for paint stripping on bikes? How well did they work?

    5 bar and AMF frames

Nice finds. I can think of all kinds of ways to have fun with those.

    too much heat???

Looks like they used a lead ring (!) to hold the balls in place. The balls themselves look fine; its just the ring that's melted. Either that, or the pic is way blurry.

    Whizzer Nation

I dunno, more people die on the roads each year than in Iraq and Afghanistan combined, due to the cops neglecting minor offenses like running red lights and DWI. Still, wizzers do have their place.

    Fiberglass Panier Durability

I'm thinking about eventually trying to fabricate some fiberglass panier buckets for a bike, as an alternative to the traditional wire baskets. I could also fabricate lids, and put reasonably water-tight hinges on them. One small concern, though... Does anyone know how well fiberglass bucket...

That's the good thing about Texas. As far as I can tell, anything under a certain horsepower (25 ? Something like that) doesn't require any papers.

And the fact that the US will never have proper drunk driving laws because the drunks like to stick together and cover for each other, and the fact that a certain major city in Texas' red lights are now functionally optional thanks to an overwhelming vote against proper law enforcement by red...

Check your local laws first. Those might require a moped or motorcycle license in some jurisdictions.

Roth flake bombs - lookin' good!

Looks like a good option for those of us who don't have compressed air on tap in their garages yet, too. I could hang frames from a tree in the back yard and paint there.
