i just use alcohol, mostly rubbing alcohol, vodka taste to good and is way to exspencive to use on a bike. but really i just cleaned up some left over sticker stuff off a frame with some hand sanitizer i "borrowed" from work. its like 70% ethyl alcohol and it works really well!
Alcohol works good. Cuts through the residue without messin up the finish. It can be used over laquer and not hurt the finish. Denatured is the cheapest I think. 8)
