Finally got a pre war ride

SO... I gave the strap method a swing to see how it worked. I used a piece of threaded rod instead of a hub to keep the strap from pulling to one side or the other. Every couple clicks I gently tapped the under side of the crown with a hammer to help relax the metal. I took my time and after about 10min I got the fork back where it started!

Man I'm glad it worked, I'd have felt bad if the fork broke in half and the end of the strap flew off and gave you a black eye or something, lol.
Lol - yeah that would have not been fun. The strap I used was super-strong, so I felt pretty safe.
