Thanks Luke! Had a few spare minutes today so I greased and assembled the crank

and the pedals

not much, but it is progress...

I got the wheels assembled tonight, scrubbed the rims with 0000 steel wool, dish soap and hot water, then rubbed them down with penetrol . I used the original 2-flat long nipples and new stainless spokes. Next step will be to grease and adjust the hubs and true the wheels, stay tuned...

sorry for the poor quality phone pics but it's all I've got

I think this hub is my favorite part, couldn't afford to buy one if it was built today...

Great paint and parts!

Probly not gonna get anything useful done this weekend so I went right to the cellar after work, assembled and greased the hubs and trued the wheels in my custom Elgin truing stand

I'm going for a classic look with this bike so no fancy modern tires this year, just a pair of blackwall Kendas I had hanging in the shed and new tubes, rolling stock is done

I got the rear wheel, rear fender and rack on tonight, already showed my rack mount, had to chop about an inch off the front of the fender, notch it to fit between the chain stays and drill a new mounting hole.

the chain guard fought me every step of the way and I'm still not 100 percent happy with it, but it's on there. If I have time later I'll change the mounts a bit

it's starting to look like a bicycle....

After a lot of measuring, a bit of cutting and drilling a couple holes I have curved fender braces on a springer fork
3166c024c31367086e794e490b351790.jpg
after that was some easy stuff, front wheel, stem, bars and grips

there's a local swap meet Sunday, I'm gonna search for a worthy seat. If not I'll try to assemble something from my box of seat parts, we'll call that " plan B" for now...

Curved braces always looks cool.
Nice work

I didn't find a seat at the swap meet. I did get this
06831edc9561305bc737e2a6a2850a2f.jpg
but that's another story for another day. Dug out a rusty seat pan, soaked it in wood bleach for a day
ed30259e3104a52d5168fdaf8a4a911e.jpg
gave the bottom a shot of primer
5e3a64537a5b49606c3db69f93bf109e.jpg
and then some black that I forgot to take a picture of. I've got a chunk of this foam left over from a chopper seat we built a while ago
7dbc1999a8796d4d496663dc52632ca2.jpg
and a can of this stuff

I would suggest either doing this step when your significant other is not looking, or perhaps don't do it in the kitchen...
ea97d7316ffe7c6c510ac15310ff2cff.jpg
then a shot of glue on each side
5d2ac1069ad8c0119402d374e3423f03.jpg
then a bunch of clamps and some tape
06315bb7b0e391aff36ef982b68e4b31.jpg
I think the renaissance man's ace bandage idea is better but figures I can't find the one I know I have around here somewhere....

Peeled off the tape after work

needs a bit of shaping, bet you didn't know this was an upholstery tool...
81e74bdbffe1e8c6dca86d9d9275cc4c.jpg
takes a light touch but works well

now comes the part where I ask the opinion of my fellow rat rodders; I could take the easy way out and make it black to match the grips, tires and pedals, or I found this hippie blanket that has all the colors of the body parts, thinking it might tie everything together....

any input?

Let's see the fabric draped over bike for comparison

I love how well the seat padding came out, but I'm not a fan of that blanket with your build.
