Since it's unanimous., I'm using the second guard :) so I was looking at these holes in the fork

must have been for a headlight of some sort? I've had this rusty bell for a while and wanted to use it on this bike

and I noticed that the mounting holes were exactly the same distance apart so...

add some old brake parts and I've got a lever operated, cable actuated noise making thingy

this is my first attempt at a video with this phone, hope it works this might or might not end up on the finished bike, just a silly idea I had.... I also got the wheels disassembled tonight, inside surface of the rims look great
61ee988812ddad4b491bdeea2307e7c3.jpg
and I'm gonna keep the original paint

both rims are nice and straight with no dents, all the spokes came out without a fight and I'm hoping all this grease and dirt protected the chrome

in not sure what bike these wheels came off of, bought em cheap at a swap meet cuz I wanted the rear hub

but whoever owned it was not stingy with the chain lube...

all the hub parts are in a bucket of simple green for a couple days, time to order some spokes :)

Love the bell idea, I have a feeling Kingfish did something similar a few years back...

Luke.
Mine was with the water can gangway horn I made. I love how what you did with the bell. That hub is beautiful.

I started picking at trying to make all these parts fit together, using this springer fork is gonna mean losing the front fender stay, so I chopped it in half
e697aae8ba9ba480f3f1b9a7f5b76d57.jpg
and I'm gonna combine it with the top part of the rack bracket
69e553dfccda73faa0922c791d792d5f.jpg
and I'll have a curved rack mount that I like much better than the straight one

gotta wait til the bike is back on it's wheels so I can set it level, but you get the idea....

Stopped at the hardware store on the way home from work tonight, got some black buttonhead Allen bolts to replace the rivets I drilled out, and brass acorn nuts to attach the two parts of the brace

here's how it sits now

. Next I get to see what's under this green paint

It took a total of about 5 hours over the last few nights but I now have a clean frame

I found one small dent in the down tube that I can live with, no cracks no breaks no repairs so I should have a good safe bike to ride :) now to stare at it and try to figure out a finish...

I think it's time to dredge this up from the depths of page 3, haven't touched it in. 2 weeks. Had to do some house maintainence , some truck maintainence , had a couple late days at work and a couple days of plain laziness. Now I've got to get back to assembling a bike. I've been debating a frame finish that will allow me to keep the original paint on all the parts, went back and forth between bare metal and gray primer and finally decided on bare metal. Taped off some really crude darts to blend with the fork, painting is not my strong point and my least favorite part of bike building so I got this...

not great up close but it is a rat...

Got the headset installed, greased and adjusted. I'm pleasantly surprised how well the rustoleum matches the paint on the fork

not bad for a five dollar spray can

next step will be to assemble the wheels and hubs, I don't own a truing stand so I use the frame and fork to hold and true the wheels, gotta do that before final fitment of fenders, here's where I'm at right now...
