I scrapped the masking tape and used some regular minwax walnut stain last night to "dirty" it up and I am pleased with the look. We'll see how it dries. May coat it with boiled linseed oil later. I also picked up some long ball end allen wrenches so that I could finally bolt the nanner beehive brace to the forks. Now I should be able to ride it again.

For the tank could you not just match a cheap h20 paint to the color of your tires, and then grease it n scratch it,rub it?
Also build a light attachment arm to lower the light down and away from the forks...
my penny's are euro's and I'm all out of cents...

I've been noodling off and on ways to make a different handlebar bracket for a light. I don't want it to stick out much farther than the bars and I also don't want it to be in front of the springer.

It will come, grasshopper...:praise:

Here's a possible idea: Check with your local paint store and see if they have any suggestions for mixing some creme tint in varnish that you can paint over the white to change it without completely covering it. A water based sealer might even work. You could leave the center section (like you did with the masking tape idea).

kf,
I used a simple reflector bracket to hold the headlight on my bobber. The type that stacks with your headset.
Just an idea.....

The problem with that is the long stem that I am using. I have some reflector brackets but none long enough without mods. I'd also need to open them up to fit the 1-1/8 steertube. I might be able to create my own out of some thick aluminum I have. No rush though. I am going to play around with some other stems that I have. I may even end up with a longer throw and a bit of a drop too.

Color wise, the walnut stain worked well last night (forgot to get pics). Just to see how it dries.

Swapped out the Ritchey stem for one that had a longer through and larger rise/drop.
Also tested out a different Delta handlebar light I have.

First trial with stem mounted in the drop position and the light mounted up.
Then with the stem in the rise position and the light down (it started raining just as I finished the first pics)

I think I like the lower bar position, but probably still lower the light more.

Since I don't have a lens for these 4" lights, I may try to incorporate these 3.25" chandelier crystals that I picked up last year in Naples, Italy.

Cool crystal:thumbsup: and think of the story you get to tell when someone at a show asks you what it is:grin:. btw my vote is definitely for down on the headlight, It looks perfect above the beehive.

I like the way it looks w/ the goose neck being closer to level, but like the headlight in the lower position way better. I really like the addition of the beehive springer!

That is my preference as well. I plan to put the bars in the lowered position with the stem like this

But then I am going to drill the rivets out of the light bracket and then modify it and reattach it so that the light is located in this position relative to the beehive. I think it will end up being centered right in front of the head of the stem.

I also decided not to use the chandelier crystals. They are just to small in diameter for this tractor light. Stopped off at the auto parts store on the way to work and picked up a brand new 4" headlight so that I can cut the lens off and make my headlight.

Dang nice idea! Frankie likey!

I think the bars look better in the down position. It reminds of the early 1900's motorcycles, which your bike already has that look too.

I've always liked the louvers that @Randythe Rat did inside of this light.

With that in mind, here is what I am thinking on my headlight. I am thinking about making thin red stripes behind the the lense using the same book report folder material that I used for the lit up louvers on Flexy's chainguard.

Then I'll paint the outline of a star on the outside of the lense with the hammered black. Here is a very rough mockup.

KF,

Perfect design in keeping with this already cool build.

Worked on the light tonight. First I removed the bracket and hammered out a little flatter then reattached it to the center of the light.

The I put on some gloves and googles and used my Dremel to cut the backside of the sealed headlight glass. I should have worn long sleeves too.
