I picked these hammered copper platters up last week yard saleing for a buck.
I know that this is a chrome bike and there is going to be a lot of anodized red too.
I think a copper stick shift can still work. We'll see when I mock it up.
Of course I might pick up something in the morning that totally changes it. That's the fun of hitting the sales. You just never know what you'll find.

Thanks, I think it will look better than plain aluminum. This platter is fairly heavy gauge material. I am going to try to incorporate the rolled edge too.

I was inspired in BO6 by all of the cool stuff that others were using and I incorporated that into BEER RUN.
Once you hit the yards with build material in mind, you find youself looking at all kind of junk, thinking what can I do with that.
It's still junk, but junk that can become build material.

Well, I started cutting the copper platter and realized that it just wasn't thick enough to use for the stickshift.
I tried out some different shapes in cardboard and ended up with this one that I cut out of some yard sale aluminum.

I also decided to work on the 1940s Snyder built Hawthorne beehive springer fork. Seems like a pretty unique style. The rocker arms are actually inside of the big fat fork blade ends. There is a vertical hole cut in the blades that the axle travels in. The problem that found was if you tighten down the nuts, then the springer fork is squeezed against the regular fork blade. My plan is to make it so when you tighten down the nuts it clamps the springer fork to the rockers and axle and leaves some room between the fork blad and the springer fork.
I took about eight 3/8 washers and ground them off on two sides.
Then I used some foil tape to hold them alligned together
Then slid them on the axle and tightened down.

I also didn't feel like waiting on welding to ride the bike. I drilled out some holes in the rear arms where they join the rear springer u-arm. I just bolted the arms to the u-arm. I was thinking it needed something more here. We'll see.

I just got nabbed sitting out on the patio having a smoke looking at your build instead of getting ready to go out to dinner.....I got the glaring eyes from my lady.....oops Looking good Kingfish!!

After I was confident that I had tightened everything down good enough for a shakedown cruise, I headed out.
- Gears shifted great (still need to permanently attach the shifter extension). Shifter location is good too. It will be better when it is permanently attached and I have the drawer pull red 7 pool ball mounted on it. It doesn't seem like I will need any chain tensioner.
- Rear suspension help up well and flexed. I think I have the right spring in there now (650 lbs/in). It is nothing like a modern full suspension bike, but it does provide a little extra cushion. The rear arm attachment may be just fine bolted on directly. I could even put another pair of bolts a little higher up on the u-arm. The rear is solid and doesn't have a lot of lateral shake.
- The chain rubs the Spaceliner seatstays every now and then. I should be able to handle this with a couple more spacer washers on the right side between the hub and the drops.
- Springer fork. Works well, but I think I need one more spacer washer to clear the springer forks from the fork blade. Like the rear suspension this is not the same as a modern fork, but it does provide good spring. I may need to preload this spring a bit more. I also may grind down the spacer washers all the way around so that they don't limit my springer fork travel. Not wobbly at all like some people with this fork have reported. It just needs the washers right and it's a solid but springy fork.
- I forced and held down the front springer to see what minimum clearance I will have between it and the top of the tire. I think there is enough room to be able to mount the 54 Chevy eagle as long as I cut the lower half of the body off.
- All in all the riding position and everything was pretty comforable. I love the bars and grips. I still haven't picked a seat yet. Later on I will decide that.

Better not let the "BOSS" catch you slacking off for some silly bike. I hear "not rat rod bikes again" plenty. Whatcha gonna do? There is some cool stuff going on with these builds. I can't just ignore my build brothas (and sistahs too).

Shakedown ride.. YEEAA!!! It seems with a lot of builds dialing springer adjustments and fabing parts to make them work has been a time consuming thing. Its fun though.. we're not NASA engineers, but we definitely do have ingenuity to accomplish our goals. Glad you were able to ride it!

It took one chain, plus about 8 inches of another. I think I counted 126 teeth for the chain. I plan on using a red chain to go with the other red accents.

Yo Critter, I actually didn't think I would be doing a shakedown this weekend, but I just couldn't wait on the welding. I was also putting a lot of trust in 4 tie wraps that are holding the temp rear springer bolt bracket.
I'm not a NASA engineer, but I do play at being an electrical engineer in real life.
