Re: YZ-24 MotoBike ...now SOUTHERN FLYER (fork fix started)

Don't look directly at this picture, it could burn your eyes.
The paint paddle served as a jig to keep things in line.

Re: YZ-24 MotoBike ...now SOUTHERN FLYER (more fork progress)

Great job so far! 8)

Re: YZ-24 MotoBike ...now SOUTHERN FLYER (more fork progress)

Finally reassembled the fork, fender and wheel and the extension worked perfectly!
The wheel is centered and at just the right location for the fender braces. The bottom mounts for the truss rods are also finished. I'm still working my way up to the stem. Hopefully I'll wrap up the trusses within the next few days.

Here's the drop outs before the graft...

And here is the new and improved version! It's a little hard to tell from the photo, but the spokes on these wheels are HUGE. I'm guessing that they are 13 gauge.

Re: YZ-24 MotoBike ...now SOUTHERN FLYER (fork problem fixed!)

Thanks Luke.

I'm considering using the old tires that are mounted at this point. The old Carlisle with its cracks and chips seems to look right at home with the feel I'm going for. However, I'm still going to try on the cream Fat Franks in the next couple of days, so I'll get a better read on it them.

Here's a closer look...

Re: YZ-24 MotoBike ...now SOUTHERN FLYER (fork truss update)

Got the last of the welding on the fork trusses finished up yesterday. There are still several things left to do before I can call it finished, but at least the fabricating work is mostly done.

I'll post some detailed pictures later today after I get a chance to take them.
Until then, here's an action shot :!: ...

Do you recognize any of these parts?

Re: YZ-24 MotoBike ...now SOUTHERN FLYER -It's a matter of TRUSS

Here's a shot of the upper half of the truss set up. This was designed around the chrome brackets (see picture above :) ). I'm trying to get a turn of the century motorcycle truss fork look.

Re: YZ-24 MotoBike ...now SOUTHERN FLYER -It's a matter of TRUSS

Some sort of hinge for a toilet bowl?

Re: YZ-24 MotoBike ...now SOUTHERN FLYER -It's a matter of TRUSS

Thanks ya'll.
This thing took way more hours than I had anticipated, but don't it always? I put it all back together today for a test fit before the polishing starts and I'm very happy with the look and fit.
Here's a look from the drivers seat...

Re: YZ-24 MotoBike ...now SOUTHERN FLYER -It's a matter of TRUSS

This build is turning out super cool. Hard to believe it's your second bike of the build off.

Re: YZ-24 MotoBike ...now SOUTHERN FLYER -It's a matter of TRUSS

That looks amazing, I think you captured the look you were going for perfectly.

Are you not worried about the strength of those toilet seat bits?

Re: YZ-24 MotoBike ...now SOUTHERN FLYER -It's a matter of TRUSS

best fork ever!

Re: YZ-24 MotoBike ...now SOUTHERN FLYER -It's a matter of TRUSS

Thanks everyone for the vote of confidence!

K-Fish, I still wish it had only been one, but I'm having fun with this one.

tvc15, glad you like it!

ossum, the parts should be more than strong enough for the cruising that I'll be doing on this bike. If I break that fork, I'd probably have worse problems than that!

ifitsfreeitsforme, Wow thanks 8) , but google 'old girder forks' for some really cool examples like this...

Now that's a cool fork! :D

Re: YZ-24 MotoBike ...now SOUTHERN FLYER (Tire Choice Time)

Yesterday, I took some mock up picks outside (between rain showers) with the new fork. The handle bars look goofy, but I cut them down this evening after I started taking things apart again.
I saved this one back and took another one today with some creme Fat Franks mounted-up for a side by side comparison.

This is a tough choice for me. Give me your thoughts on it...
