Inside of the steering tube measures 13/16", but neither of the '50's Schwinn stems I have will fit. The Columbia ones I have fall right in but are too long.

Just cut an inch off the bottom at the same angle. That should work just fine.

May try that tomorrow.

Yeah, that should work easily as long as your bolt has threads in the shortened area or you have a shorter bolt.

Cutting down the other stem was easier than I thought it would be. Cut almost 2 1/2 inches of the ol' bugger. Brand new sawzall blade was like butter. A little orange paint to help it flow and viola!

New stem installed, I had to try out the bars and grips. ( still waiting delivery of front tire & tube )

To honk or not to honk . . . . ?

Pedals on & may hafta distress the chainguard lettering a bit. Too white methinks.

Oh man, I forgot that the front wheel is a 16. Oh definitely the apes then!!!!!
It'll be like a 1940s Krate barn find.

Twas a pain to run the wires and find a switch and battery that would fit inside the bar tube, but I like the way it came out.
