Schwinns were sold with over 200 headbadges I think. Most of them don't mean anything in particular. If there were 3 retailers in a town that sold bikes, they would each like a different headbadge in order to distinguish themselves and give the impression that they carried a somehow different product, their own line.

Likely it was a Chicago Dealer that had those badges on their bikes. I had heard of these "Chicago" badges before, but had never seen one. Too bad it was left out for so long, I'm sure it was gorgeous when the paint was still there.

It might hold more value leaving it alone. There are still remnants of paint on it now. Maybe you should wait until you get more advice from those more informed? Another huge issue is how to remove it without damaging it. You might find yourself wanting to grind off those rusty screws. Almost always there is some slipping and marking the badge. You DO NOT want that.

was that bike buried? from what I can see it looks like you found it with a metal detector. at some point rust is cool when it looks that crazily gone.

I wouldn't touch it with anything! That patina is perfect as it is! It tells the story of where it's been.

Luv that patina. You might try a very sharp jewelers file to clean-up/deepen the screw holes.
Maybe start with a "V"shape, then go to a square.
I would want/need to use my Opti-Visor to see exactly what is going on.
Have had PB Blaster lift paint, maybe use Tri-Flow or similar to hopefully loosen the screws a bit.
If a dremel is the last resort, blue tape for the surrounding area, and again consider magnification.

Get some roof flashing or other thin metal (even a coke can) and drill out a hole that is a little bigger than the screw head.
Still cover the badge with tape first.
Use this to cover and shield the rest of the badge as you work on the screw. This will help prevent an oops with screwdrivers, files, pliers, etc.

Good advise, I agree totally.

Wow, looked at the badge link you supplied at the CABE. If that guy wanted $400 for that badge, what's our Hibbard's worth???

Not that I'd ever take it off!!!

It's free from the frame when I got the top screw out it cracked it had so much rust and dirt behind it that's the first time I have seen one that bad be fore
