Hey I just learned of this community/scene of group rides in LA and surrounding cities. Seems like there are rides planned every day almost. I'm going to go check out this event today/tonight and see what it's like. From their pics and vids it seems to be mostly road bikes- single speeds and fixies. You know how those LA kids are. But some of everything seems to come out. Anyone else familiar with?
Anyone planning to go or would like to meet up and go? Tonight or later on?
Just say so and we'll go pedal.

Well, no one responded, but that's ok. I went on the ride that saturday, and it was ridiculous. Turned out over 300 people and an RV with loud music from a live DJ on board and a live punk rock band. It was a giant rolling party- ride for a ways, then take over a parking lot and party for like half and hour, then roll to the next spot. I didn't make it home til 4am and some of them stayed on the beach til sun came up. Jeez.
Also went on two other rides after that, a bar hopping ride thru North Hollywood. And then a more sporty ride with some roadbikes and fixies through LA/griffith park area. Both rather fun.

So anyone on here that's anywhere around the LA area should check it out. I live in Pasadena, so I drove to the 3 rides I've been on, although there are some that start here too. If you are nervous or don't think you'll fit in don't worry, everyone's cool as heck- really. Some of the best friends with strangers I've ever had. Huh? Yeah. There's a few different rides that encourage freak-bikes and cruisers and stuff, so they are not the fast paced rides with the road bikes that will wear you out. So if anyone shows up with any of the customs I've seen on here, you'll be a hit. They'll love 'em.

You too smutpeddler!

Here's some pics I took on the aforementioned rides.

Re: LA area group rides -lots of pics!

Heck yes you do rev106! And it was awesome! There were some cool bikes out there- several sic-as-all-things-unholy customs! Let me post more pics for your viewing pleasure.

The first few are of a custom rig that belonged to guy named Jay (I think), and it was some excellent fabrication and creativity. He let me ride it and it was exceptional smooth and solid feeling. The suicide wood-block brake and suicide shifted three speed were both awesome and easy to use.

That suicide shifter 3 speed is .......

I haven't been able to make it to any of the Midnight Ridazz rides, but pictures from them never stop amazing me. I wish there was a bike culture like that down here in Orange County, but no such luck.

Re: LA area group rides Eye witness !

I am so gonna go to the next one!!!!!!!!!! I felt like a bit of an idiot for missing it (and even being in a car)(I thinks this endeavor was a midnight ridazz thing I'm guessing though.) I saw the pasadena toy ride (?) flyer earlier in the day but plans were already set

shortly after 11:00 pm..

downtown Los angeles...

I was heading downtown to meet some friends @ La Cita for some drinks and punk/ska/reggae tonight in downtown right below Chinatown, down on 2nd about to make a left to go south on Hill St, out of nowhere, heading eastbound, cyclists just started pouring out of the second street tunnel!!!
I could not believe my eyes
They just kept coming and coming... cruisers, ratrods, ten speeds ,twenty's, mountain bikes, euro racers, low riders, choppers, Pre war bikes, tall bikes, ,etc, etc the whole lot !!!!! I'd say there had to be way more than 500 riders, I had no idea it was gonna be that kind of party! I jus' stuck my head out my window taking the whole scene in and every one is all ... 'hey'! Even had quite a few Santa Claus appearances! It was so great seeing all the bikes lit up for night riding including Christmas! And Every Dude ANd Every Chick Had A Big Ol' Grin and or Smile on their faces! It was just beautiful.
At one a point a sheriff bolted up Hill driving northbound into the middle of the intersection and split the group after an assumed viewing of the unyielding stream running a third red, lighting up and chirping at the red light runners and then speeding off in a huff. We waited on at least 5 changes of the traffic lights before making the left

And the one night i didn't have my camera on me.... AAAARGH! oh well I do have a camera mount on my Spaceliner ready for next time.. cheers to all the riders!!!!
