The chain has been soaking in a plastic bag for several weeks. Just a few sticky links that loosened up with some mechanical force. I'll probably probably have to add a link because the new adapter hub is a cog larger than the original.

Chainguard finish underway as well.

Well things are still fluid...found this "broken" Elgin ornament on the bay for a "reasonable" price. A little filing on the broken area and a new hole equals recycle/reuse. I have a brass bracket going that needs some rounded corners to make it look ratty but less so. The ornaments show up in the early catalog pics.

I'll clean it up a bit and reblacken the letters and call it good.

Cool, I need one of those!!!
Yes cool, they show up in Sears catalog pics '35-'36 F/W, copy says "Streamline decorations that are new and different." Hard to see in the photo but they are there at front of stem. I assume they let you go faster.

Assembled possible bars, stem and Elgin wing ornament from 35-36. I imagine a bunch of them broke off and were thrown away. I'm ready to add chain but it's just too hot and humid this afternoon.
I may trim the ends of the bars, when I get the chain on for a ride I'll decide.

Looks good! Be cool to see that chain guard on there....have a nice ride.

I appreciate the "Likes"...I need to get out and look more at the other builds going on. This Elgin continues to evolve and I find that some of the stuff in my original parts pile will go unused. After adding the flying logo I added a few other doodads. This bike is evolving to be a vintage custom with a little rattiness, closeup the paint is by no means flawless. I've manage to add a few dings as the assembly has progressed. I'm going to have to do some paint touch up as well.
I added a horn (shown previously), bell (shown previously), copper bottle opener, recycled tool bag with vintage tools, and license tag (shown previously).
Still need to add chain and stripe some of the color transitions.

Attempted to bring headbadge back to life, started on it anyway.
Procrastinating on chain...

Are the rains holding off for now, Ed? Looks like you're getting close to the end....

I use a 'build box' on my projects as well. As I gather parts for a bike I place them in a tub and build from there, some things/ideas make it, some don't. Usually, I find something in the bottom that either solves a problem, reminds me of an idea, or makes me ask "what was I thinking with this thing?" [emoji38][emoji38][emoji38]

Had a lot of catching up to do on your build.
Classy top shelf build as usual.
Lots of cool ideas to steal too.
At first I wan't feeling the bright green, but now that the rest of the paint is getting laid down, I like your vision on this one.
Another great build my friend!

I finished cleaning the chain up, it's still rusty, patina. Then I slapped it on and got by with just adding one link.

The chain is on and the extra link matched up with the mockup fender and wheel position pretty well. Tightened everything up and went for shakedown cruise. I need to raise seat or move it back?

My wife did the cinematography...second ride, first was to see if things stayed together.

Ed, I'd say flip your seat post around so it angles back. That's what I did on 'Faded Glory' and it worked like a charm. More comfy position too, not sitting right over the crank arms.
