Re: 1939 Colson Flyer Rat - Now with Nexus 3 Spd - Lots of pics

Here is a minor update. swapped out the bars and rerouted the shifter wire. No need to comment on the purple sprocket - I'm still working on a replacement.

love your bike ,man! :D you have the kind of finish on your bike, that i was hoping to find on my colson imperial! tried uncle stretch`s oven cleaner trick,3 times, just to end up with a 5 colored bike w/ no original paint! the blade style forks rock. ive got two extra sets of colson blade forks w/ truss rods, and one set on my `41 lafrance,in the ratrodbike calendar. love the way your bike has evolved!

still looks great and you might try clothespin n's or hoochs cable routing ideas from the rrbbo #1

What were their bikes called?

Nevermind - i found them

I thought about shortening the cable, but I couldn't figure out how to do it without destroying the shifter.

Sweet job. Your bike is the reason I picked up my Colson to begin with. It is almost warm enough in Wisconsin to paint! That is, if I decide to paint it. Pity you went back to the straight bars, as I was planning on using them also. Oh well.

I hate the chain guard, though. It looks awful on your bike. It would look much better on mine.

Thanks! the bars actually have slight drop to them. maybe 1 inch. I'll have t get some better pictures. they came off my centurion. I sanded down the bars to give them a slightly weathered look. and I changed the old Flex Fit grips with some chubby white schwinn grips. the red was clashing wih the tires.

and you can't imagine the number of offers I have gotten for that chain gaurd.

ok, so i flipped and chopped the original bars and finally changed the sprocket. I think she's done for now...

Might get a little pin striping done

I just wired up the light. I hid 3 AA batteries and ran the wires through the handlebars and put a button switch on the end of the grip. It casts a pretty cool light pattern. I also added a pic of the new sprocket.

You should try flipping the bars back up. It looks like it is built for cruising and super comfortable ( 3 speed, Brooks saddle, headlight ) except for the bars. Just my opinion

I'm 6'3" and 260lbs and this bike was built in 1939 - nothing about this bike is comfortable...
