Built from scratch, but not quite a bike...

Thank you for all the compliments! Sorry I haven't posted for a while. I have made a lot of progress on the pedal car since I posted the last pictures. Here are some updated ones: These pictures were taken at George Mason University for the Environmental Expo this past April. I made a...

Thank you, but I don't need the Sturmey Archer hubs. I think the 20mm axle hubs would be more durable. I'm actually trying not to use bicycle wheels because when they are put on a 4 wheeled vehicle they need to be trued a lot. Also, I got the disc-mount sprocket from benscycle.net. The brand...

Thanks! They are just like driving a go-kart with pedals. They can go as fast as a bicycle on flat ground and downhills, but up hills are pretty slow. To fix this, I put an electric assist motor on it so it now matches a bicycles speed regardless of the hill. The pedal car in the pictures has...

Built from scratch, but not quite a bike...

The hubs are 20mm thru-axle mountain bike hubs. They are mounted using 3/4" go-kart spindles. Since 3/4" = 19.05 mm, there isn't that much play and when the wheel nuts are tight there is no play at all. I spent a few months trying to find wheels for this pedal car. There are only a handful of...

Thanks! And I had just cleaned the shop for the picture. It usually has some tools laying around and metal pieces here and there, but I like to keep it relatively clean. I can't work when I'm stepping/tripping over cords and tools. The shop is a little bit dirtier in these pictures, though...

Built from scratch, but not quite a bike...

Thank you! Here are some more pics: This is how it started out. I used the rear triangles off of two Wal-mart bikes and the head tubes were used to hold the front spindles. The seats are from Office Depot and the gears are shifted via the stick shift in the center console. The frame is made of...

Built from scratch, but not quite a bike...

(Without the body) This may not be a traditional rat rod bike, but it was handcrafted over 5 months and it's basically two bikes put together with a rat rod car on top. I built this pedal car because I don't like the way life is nowadays. I don't like how fast life moves now that almost...

Just installed a car horn on my 60's Schwinn American

Good idea! if you look closely at the horn you will see the edges of the foam tape I put inside the horn to make it slightly quieter. It doesn't help much though. When I get home after finals I will flip it upside down.

Just installed a car horn on my 60's Schwinn American

Thanks! I've yet to use it though. I've tested it out around the house but I haven't had a chance to ride it because I have my final exams at college this week so next week if I hapen to piss anybody off with it I will share the stories. I hope a car cuts me off. lol

Just installed a car horn on my 60's Schwinn American

I restored this bike over my winter break this past December. This past weekend I installed a horn and the rear fender. A friend of mine installed new horns in his car so I installed one of the old horns on my bike. There is a 8- AA battery pack under the seat and the button to activate the horn...

I tried to get some pics up but I don't know how to get them on the page. I see the image tab on top of the box where you type the text, but when I try to copy-paste the image between the ( [img][img] )it doesn't work. Is there anything special I need to do? I have a mac and I haven't completley...

Hey! I've been looking for a site like this for a while but now I've finnally found a forum for old school bikes. Sweet! Anyways, I don't have any pictures on my computer yet but I just put the finishing touches on a 1960's (I think) Schwinn American. I got it from a friend who had spray...
