Got a few things progressing this weekend early in morning before power tools are polite out doors (Siding one side of house)
high power ckt with 2 40A Solid State Relays 2 cpu heatsink/fan combos and terminal strip. I powder coated the panel in the toaster oven. Also the front wall
of the oven with an oven window salvaged from a junk home oven.

Did a power test on the 40A solid state relay section hooked up to the heating elements usimg the controller I did a bunch of ohming out with my meter didn't want this 240vac 6000 watt stuff to blow up in my face or be grounded to the frame cause i wasn't paying attention. It all worked as it was supposed to. Now I need to buy some 4x8 sheets of galvanized.........Oh and put the shingles (two pallets worth) that are in the box's behind the test setup on the garage walls..

The outside of the oven didn't get too hot I could hold my hand on most places. The places that the steel studs touch both in and out were hotter but I knew that would happen. I need to learn a little more about the PID controller I'm using too fine tune the temp. Over shoot .
CeeBee thanks I was wondering if I needed a circulation fan and maybe a heat shield directly over the elements. The SSRs that I'm using are just on/off but are you saying on the variable output controllers the output is pulse width modulated ? neat if so . this is the first temp controller I have used and I got these in trade so they didn't cost me much. They are Omega CN9000As and run about $250 new. My first test was with it in the on /off mode so I have to exp. with the other modes when I have time. Will post up a dwg. of a fan/heat shield setup soon.
CeeBee the SSRs are just an on off device that turn on at zero crossing of the ac line then stay on at least till the next zero crossing. I use Automation Direct at work for controls and PLCs neat place great service. My SSRs have an on range of 3vdc to 32vdc. The variable output controllers may sync to the line and spread the pulses out for a decrease in SSR output and closer together for full on 60hz. Since I already have two I will have to use them. Just gotta do some learning on the functions . I think I'll give the convection shield a try I have a leftover chunk of sheet metal so it won't cost me any thing.
Thanks for the info do you have a website for your business? It would be fun to see your ovens . Oh and I work as an electronics tech at Fermilab for the last 40 yrs

CeeBee I up graded my Omega CN9000A to a pulse output it was only $25 got it in 3 days installed in a few min took longer to rewire for a relay on the timer to shut down the pulses when bake out is done.
Just did a trial run on the oven with the upgraded controller it has an auto tune feature that learns the response of the heating elements and self sets the parameters for optimum response . I was getting an over/ under shoot of 25* out of 400 setting now it inches up to 400 and stops on a dime . I also buile a powder / spray booth into a corner closet in the garage I put a furnace blower with a louvre blowing outside and made a filter frame on a tarp used tarp snaps to hold it all up.
So how long till you test it out?
