I just obtained a set of bmx 20" troxel wheels made in 1984 and I"m wondering if the rear brake is shot. It seems to lock when the sproket is rotated back and forth with a little bit of play in between. Could this be a direct gear hub? Is there a common type of brake on the old bmx bikes?

well I'm an idiot... I realized that the sprocket is only used as the brake and to crank the wheel, and the bolt going through it is the coaster. Thanks for not pointing out my stupidity with this stuff. I"m going to go smoke some more crack now.

no worries dude, bicycles make me feel stupid routinely, but i keep comin back for more!!! a mistake i keep making is that ya can replace a hub that uses caged ball bearings w/ loose, but not vice versa. i know this, but i just the other day wasted about half an hour doing just that! oh well, thats part of the fun i suppose. fast eddie outty
