Started out with a brand new bike from WalMart - an O.P. "Roller" ($99). Saw it one day and got an idea in my head..

As it looked from the store:

Black painted aluminum frame.

Removed the stock gray wishbone front fork. I had a typical chrome Schwinn-clone front fork laying around. Scuffed it and shot the top bracket and forks BBQ black. Scuffed the struts for a brushed chrome look. Had to take a chop-saw to the steering head so that it would all fit.

Test-fit:

Swapped off the stock seat for an old Brooks I had hanging in the garage. Chopped 2 1/2" off each end of the stock handlebars and flipped them. Added a pair of Nirve retro-style grips. Swapped on a new set of tires.

The end result:

And parked next to a vintage frame rat (that I have since sold):

Very slick! I wonder if someone makes Orange colored tires?

I just did a quick eBay search and found white, yellow, blue, red, green and pink 26" balloon tires.

I have my eye on some orange BMX tires for a build for my youngest son.

Nice! I want to pick up another one - got more ideas..

Nice job! It's amazing what a few part swaps will do for a $99 bike. Looks great.

Turned out sweet! I notice though that yours appears to have a euro style bottom bracket with a tapered spindle? I bought mine a few years back, I guess one of the first release models and it has a standard American bottom brackett, I currently have a Chrome Redline Monster 3-piece crankset in mine. Interesting,...

How hard was it to get the decals off?

Very easy. I parked it in the sun and after a few minutes, just lifted them with a fingernail. Wiped off the residual adhesive with Goo-Gone and a soft cloth.
