Vintage Schwinn, but what model and approx year?

It has the head emblem, but no other markings or identification. It could be anything from a Hornet? Panther? Wasp? None of the above?

I have about 200 Vintage Schwinns and just starting to identify them now. I would estimate this to be something from the 40's based on research

Has the post-1946 forward-facing dropouts and straight intermediate bar...Spitfire maybe? Not a real Schwinn expert so I'm curious what others think.

Yep. Model D97X. Made '46-'50 something. About the only thing original on that bike is the frame, chain ring and fork. Maybe neck and bars. The rest is added on stuff. The hub is a 2-speed. If it shifts, it's worth about $100. Gary
 
Doesn't shift, I bought it anyhow. The serial number Starts with a B**** and the serial is on the bottom bracket. Far as I can tell it is a 47. Anyone have the correct fenders?
