WOW, this is wild! Almost like a belt driven setup but with an upper row of links, made of metal not polymer and needs oiling/maintenance. In other words...way different. I guess it still does the job using leg power to move a wheel and propel a bike. Thanx to all for the info.....md

Stunned that it uses a different tooth engagement on the rear cog than the front. Seems an overly complex solution to a problem that didn't exist.

Here’s a pic of my father in law on his new bike, a Shelby that his older sisters purchased for him. It had to be around 1946-47 as he told us he was around 13 years old at the time. I inherited the bike from him and plan to do a complete restoration some day.
