Your klunker has a gnarly look to it! I didn't get a close look at the tires, which brand / model / size are they? And I really dig your use of vintage brand mtb parts. There is no beating an old moto-x bar for a klunker, looks and function wise!

Is the saddle a little 'crispy' or just to rigid? A hand lotion with a high lanolin % is good to soften a crispy saddle, if you want to make the leather more supple, any animal fat by - product, like lard, is great for that.

EDIT: I enlarged the tire photo, Panaracer Fire tires. Nice big lugs, huge side lugs, sweet. A favorite tire for racing BITD was the Panaracer Fire XC Pro, before low profile tires were in vogue. They've got a great heritage of tire making. My skinny build has Panaracer Gravel Kings on it.

I rubbed Murphy Oil Soap into it twice yesterday and it soaked it up. I’m going to keep working it in. The saddle was never ridden and I found it in a bike shop.

I’m hoping the simplicity of the bike is what makes it special.
 
Those MX bars look perfect on this build. I do wish I had your parts stash to pick thru. :thumbsup: I'm digging the old Chevy truck under the tarp too! :cool:
 
Back in the shop tonight for a little work. My pieces together small diameter seat guts was slipping so I went with the tried and true spacer trick. I hope all you guys know about it, but if not, this is the spacer you buy and split to adapt a new style seat clamp with an old style seat post.

Then I put my 42t sprocket on a black OPC. trying to go with silver and black on the hardware.

Installed that and also the black MX bar on the PorkchopBMX stem that I stripped the paint off of last night.

Gotta find some pedals, put on a chain, and I’m waiting for some grips I ordered.
 
Nice tip on the seatpost spacer!

When I built my 1950 Columbia back in 2010 a bike shop found an old seat post for me and the owner told me about the spacer I could get at Lowe’s. I’ve used that trick on a lot of bikes since then.
 
Okay, I decided I wanted to have a simple front brake for extra brake control and a backup if I lose the chain.

No, you’re eyes are not deceiving you, that’s a Chang Star lever and a Lee Chi caliper.

I think it’s minimal enough that it doesn’t detract from the simplicity of this build.

I like that green. It reminds me of my grandpa's F-100 when I was young in the early 70s.
 
Brake set up looks clean on there. It's a good idea too. I might should consider that for some of my coaster braked rides. 👍
I don’t worry about it on my cruisers, but on something I plan to take on trails and downhill regularly, I want a backup plan as much as just more braking control.

It definitely turned out better than I expected. I just bought “Hunter Green” in Rustoleum brand.

Even though it turned out great I was *not* impressed with the paint, it went on incredibly thin and I had a hard time even covering the red oxide primer. Someone suggested a lighter primer but I wanted to keep the paint dark. When I finished the can of green spray paint I noticed it said “paint + primer” and I have used a lot of paint/primer combo cans and none have gone on that thin and covered so poorly.

It’s this stuff.
