The emblem on the badge with the wheel and wings was stolen from the Reichsbahn...the German state railroad. "Western Germany" tells you it was made between May of 1945 and Oct 1990. Sorry I can't help you more. Gary
 
Assuming that those are the original wheels, I believe the 55 is the year that Sturmey Archer stamps on their hubs, making this bike a 1955. Cool 3speed, i have a 55' Steyr Clubsman which is very similar to yours but Steyr being an Austrian built bike...
