I've seen thousands of these Solexes in my life,but never one with an ape. Brilliant. Have fun and ride safe.
We used to screw the motor of a Solex backwards on a scooter (trottinette), so the rearwheel was propelled by it. It was awesome.

@spooky: No, I'm sorry. I don't have pics from the scooter. It was in the late '70-s,that we built it. It looked something like this:
But if you have a spare motor, you could give it a try. Especially the modern-day scooters have decent handbrakes, so it shouldn't be as dangerous as 35 years ago. :mrgreen: Just screw it on the floorboard and go!

I have a 1979 Solex. I've read that 1978 was the last year for them "officially" in the U.S., but this one has a 1979 VIN tag, and I believe Consumer Reports tested one in 1980, so at least a few of them must have come in during 1979.
Unfortunately the ignition switch broke and I haven't found a replacement yet. Also the engine cover/name plate disappeared under mysterious circumstances and will probably be hard to find a replacement since it is yellow.
