Hi, Thought i would share my project slowbike.

I had seen this old school rodbrake bike in a local builders old yard and after many years of visiting and thinking it was cool, got some motivation from my pastor to build a slowbike for meandering around on. then i found this website.

there are many talented people on here and your bikes are fantastic.

I had hoped to find out what make it was and restore faithfully, but the headtube decal didnt give me enough information.

So i just went with new chrome, new rodbrakes and various othe parts. Basically all that i kept of the original was the frame.

This was my first attempt at spraying too, and it passes the 6ft test.

after several months and waiting for a cotterpin chainset for ages, the bike was rideable, but the sturmey archer was stuck in its highest gear and meant i couldnt ride it up my road!

4 quid and a small custom bracket later, i have 3 working gears and have ridden a couple of miles with no problems. Just need to stop the full chainguard from rubbing and its done. Full chaingaurd is cool, but is a real pain to fit and set up so nothing rubs. Required some molding with a ballpein hammer.

The rear hub is a 50's 3spd dyno hub and definitely a bonus as the pair of wheels came as you see for £26, no derusting necassary. One of the dyno connectors is missing, but if i can solder a connection on there, with a bit of luck i will be able to hook up some lights. Sweet.

I wondered what you guys think i should do to it next.

I'm thinking the classic lines of some whitewalls and maybe changing the seat for something different as that repro one is a bit wierd to ride on. I saw the tandem on here where the guy painted his rims red and kinda like that, but cant do it to these rims (genuine raleigh stainless 26 by 1/3/8s).

I also have this blue saracen which i use for riding to town, locking up, doing the errands and coming back to the complete bike to ride home on. Was thinking of doing something to that, but must keep it looking nothing special to avoid unwanted attention.
Just wanted someone elses input.

The garage is pretty busy as i have 3 bikes, the misses 2 and i am on a strict one in one out promise. I would love to get a cruiser or chop, but like my slowbike too.

Thanks for your time

Welcome Nige!
Very nice resto man, great job.
I started just like you a several years ago and now I cant stop, I´ve done this on a few rodbreak bikes and I know how tricky they may be. I bought my sixth RBB last week, thou it´s gonna have to wait it´s turn to get refurbished.
Yours is looking fab.
Keep up the good vibes 8)

Thanks gdcast,

I am pleased with the turn out of the slowbike. The trouble with this hobby, is everywhere i go, i'm looking out for useful / more bikes that are going for nothing / next to nothing. I cant help myself!

Keep rollin indeed 8)
