Shaft drive 80s freestyle bike.. What is it?

Friend brought this to work today.. He has all the parts for it but hasn't been assembled in like 13 years he said.. He has no idea on what it is , neither do I? Never seen a shaft driven freestyle bike before.. Any info on year, make, popularity?? Pretty cool bike I think. sorry for the bad pics it was really bright outside so had to take a pic in the car haha.

It's a really cool idea I think.. He said it pedaled really smooth when it was together. So how popular were these things? Any ideas?

My guess is that this is a one off custom. The front triangle and seat stays say Skyway Street Beat. The chainstays, bottom brackett and dropouts look to have been cut and welded.
