Sears Roebuck 24" Muscle Bike

Saw this on craigslist and sent the guy a message, he told me it was accounted for, but then called me back then next day to tell me that the other guy had flaked and it was mine if I wanted it. I was out there in an hour.
It's a late 60's/early 70's Sears Roebuck Spyder MK-5 with 24" Wheels and 5-Speed derailler. It's going to need a little bit of cleanup and a couple of new parts, but I am stoked to get this flying on the road. With 5 gears and really skinny tires I will have a lowrider I can take to work! Here are the pics, I haven't had a chance to mess around with it at all yet.

I think we're going to need a bigger shifter...

This was a size comparison with my 20" Silver Bullet and my 26" Sears SpaceLiner. It's the perfect size!

If you don't mind, how much did you pay for the little jewel? I have a 24" Sears Spyder and curious on its worth in similar condition.

I paid $75 for my Spyder, which is the most I have paid for ANY of my bikes. Most of them were free or almost free. But I saw it and had to have it, especially because I hadn't yet come across a 24" lowrider or one with gears. I needed to expand the collection, felt like the investment was worth it

They are ....... bikes, I think you did well. They sell for that on ebay all the time but then you have to add the shipping. For whatever reason, the resale value isn't there but they are fun to ride and can be had cheap.

I found this site for the nearby New England Muscle Bike Museum, and they list the Sears Spyder as a "Manta Ray Type Failure." Bummer, I think it's a pretty nice bike, whatever they say.

Actually, it is for sale but not listed anywhere...currently it is my swap meet rider and if it sells so be it as it will be making room for another bike... 8)

That's a Shimano shifter. They pop up on Ebay from time to time, but I haven't seen many, or in good shape.

That would be a Huret shifter Not a Shimano shifter....Sorry Crash...lol
Here is the correct shifter for it. It is supposed to have a black nob that bolts through the hole in the shifter.
