Greetings,
I have a schwinn speedster one speed with a coaster brake. I am trying to rat rod it, but the only problem that I have is that when I ride it I hear a clicking noise coming from the headset. I have cleaned the bearings and re-greased them and that made it stop a little. I dont think the bearings are worn out, but I could be wrong. Where can one get some new bearing? I also noticed that the bottom bearing is slightly larger that the top one. Are the interchangeable? I am a newbie to the Rat Rod bike. Any help will be appreciated. I will post the picture of the bike in a later post. Thanks!

You could also check the handlebars and gooseneck. They squeaked on my bike and I thought it was from the headtube too. I just oiled it and tightened everything up and it solved the problem.

The bottom bearing race should be bigger.

...or the biggest out of the two.

...or larger than the top one.

I guess what Im trying to say is the big one goes on the bottom.

Clean and iINSPECT the bearings and races real good.

If there are any grooves or pits in the races or bearings...that could be the cause.

New headsets are cheap enough from your local friendly Schwinn dealer.
