My dad dropped by today and gave me an old Rudge he got from one of his friends. looks like it just needs a hunk of leather and a shifter cable!

Nice! Looks like a 50's bike. There's probably a 2 digit date code on the rear hub shell that will give you the year it was made.

11 56 would be November of 1956.

Nice score; those old Nottingham "Sports" bikes are some of the best all-round riders ever made.

Put a set of Kool Stop pads on it, the red ones. That will help the braking somewhat.

it got new pads but the rims are really rusty, I was thinkin the pads would clean the rust off but the reverse happened..

Maybe scotch brite the rims to cut the abrasive effect a little....

If the chrome is gone, maybe take a wire wheel to the rims, at least on the surfaces where the pads contact.
