Excellent point; any time your coaster is acting up, the first move is to flush, repack, and rebuild it. Often, that's all it needs.... and, in the case that something actually is broken, this is a good process for diagnosing exactly what small part(s) needs to be fixed or replaced....

The best single speed IMO is the red band Bendix hub. They were from the 60's though. So if your hub is still bad after all, get a good one if you want to do a lot of cruising. have it laced up to good rim and then you'll need good tires too! Hope your wallet's ready! 2 speeds are good too, the old red and yellow (3 bands) are good if you get a decent one. New ones are the Sturmey Archer 2 speed kickback and Sachs Automatix, with coaster brakes. No shifter or cables to deal with and they stop like a one speed. I use the auto shift Sachs, but kickback hubs let you choose when you shift between the 2 gears.
