I though it would be a cool idea to build a tribute cycle to Rat Rod Bikes... one that looks like the forum.
I picked out the most high end Elgin I could find that had a red rattle can paint job.

What I did was just teardown, clean & rebuild. Waxing all the painted parts.
The wheels make the bike don't you think? I have seen one on an avatar somewhere....

Thanks RRB for the inspiration

Re: RATTLE RAT

Guess stuff from the Ft Worth sale just shines up well! Thanks

Re: RATTLE RAT

The stripper showed up!
Elgin parted out:
Tank sold
Wheels sold
Chaingaurd and stem sold
Trusses went to my CWC bike/Tires are on the Colorflo
Their is a rough fork and peaked fender set that have seen better times...
...and one curved tube frame.
Well this frame didn't move so what I want to do is just build a bike for me to sell!

Here is what I'm starting with:

The frame gets some attention

Re: RATTLE RAT

You know I was planning a completely different look for this cycle and was going to name it completely different. But given that I will be using paint from a rattle can for the new finish I'm now thinking that the current name and thread will work fine.

Dupli-Color has been really easy for me to work with and it generally gets high marks. I will use it exclusively on this repaint.
The weather cooperated today letting me get the primer down.

Re: RATTLE RAT

I know exactly what u mean. A straight seat post in this frame dose not look as good as a lucky seven.

But with all those lovely curvey lines are you sure you want a 'straight' fork?

Re: RATTLE RAT

I got some odd colors.
Emerald green pearl & dark cherry metallic.

The first few coats of lacquer.

Re: RATTLE RAT

This painting thing is a little tricky. I had some lifting of the green by the tape but for the most part it worked out. Ready for clear.

Re: RATTLE RAT

Normally Im a BRG (British Racing Green) kinda guy, of which there are probably 30 some shades, but I am going to have to find some of this green of yours to check out. Did you clearcoat what we see here, or is it just the colorcoat with that much depth?

Re: RATTLE RAT

Clear will go on in a day or two. What u see here are just the the colors.
I have been impressed with Dupli-Color finishes. They are a first rate paint.

Re: RATTLE RAT

First rate paint doesn't lift with tape...just sayin'. I've been bitten too many times with it.

Regardless, build is looking great!

Re: RATTLE RAT

Some lifting on the underside of the top tube where I didn't prep well.. I think?
