Starting with a recent find...a crusty 65 Schwinn Traveler with a yellow band kickback hub.

Time for some new tires...ignore the seat height...was on my work stand.

The kickback hub works great and even stops great too....whew!

Where are the pedals?

Too rusty to mention.

Will be looking for a cleaner coppertone "S" seat and some bow tie pedals.

I really like that disassembled picture. That would make a great poster. Or series of Posters.

Re: PROJECT 65 TRAVELER - (TORN DOWN)

I'll make an early ebay prediction of....$410... :D

Re: PROJECT 65 TRAVELER - (TORN DOWN)

Ha Ha....I leave that business to my Uncle.

The paint on this bike is pretty lousy compared to the other Schwinn touring bikes I have owned.

Also, the rear fender is pretty dinged up.

We'll see how it turns out.

Re: PROJECT 65 TRAVELER - (TORN DOWN)

The paint on the inside of the forks shows how good the original coppertone looked. I don't suppose there's a cleaner that will bring the rest of it back like that. Billy Mays would know what to do. I would give it a good cleaning and wax it down a few times to see if it looked any better. I've done that to faded Schwinn colors before with pretty good results, never tried it with coppertone.

Re: PROJECT 65 TRAVELER - (TORN DOWN)

Yeah....the steer tube and behind the headbadge really show off the true brilliance.

It will clean up fairly well, but nowhere near what the original color was like.

wax on...wax off

Re: PROJECT 65 TRAVELER - (JUST NEEDS A SEAT!)

Scored an NOS set of coppertone chubby grips off of Ebay last week and they arrived yesterday.

Cleaned and regreased everything with the exception of the rear hub...it shifts and stops great.

Planning to convert the headlight into an LED wireless unit to light up the road at night.

Just need to find a nice coppertone "S" seat and she'll be ready for the road. :D :D :D

Re: PROJECT 65 TRAVELER - (ASSEMBLED!!!!)

I can't believe how nice you clean up your bikes. Not a speck of grease on the sprocket teeth or the rear hub! Amazing.
