Pre 1948 Schwinn New World serial number

I bought a pre 1948 Schwinn New World frame that I'm going to build into a vintage track bike and would like to find when it was made.

The serial number is: I25382 ..... The first letter is an I and not a "one". Can anyone tell me what year, month and day the frame was built?

There's no way to be sure, due to the '48 factory fire. But, sometimes there are changes in manufacturing, specs, graphics, or parts that can narrow it down. Most of what's out there applies to balloon models. I'm not sure if there's similar info for lightweights like the New World. But check out Schwinnbikeforum.com, they have a lot of lw info, and much more reliable and friendly than the "official" Schwinn site! -Adam

As far as I know Schwinn always skipped "I" so it wouldn't be confused with 1. Wonder if that started later on?
