G day My name Josh I'm from the Gold Coast, Queensland.
I have just finally(after many many months of searching) got a bike for a project.

I'm still not quite sure on the model/year but it is definitely a Malvern Star it looks a lot like a 2 star but it hasn't got the stars on the head lugs or fork. But the old boy who sold it to me said it was a Preston Star. As far as I'm aware it original colour was red the problem is that the previous owner decided that it would be a great idea to hand paint the whole thing (wheels, frame and fork) with metallic green automotive paint and just under the green is a grey/purple paint then red.

This is the bike in question I hope some one out there can shed some light on this model.

The rear hub is a coaster brake called a "Super Granat" The front is a British Hubs Co Ltd "Defiance". Also the seat stay bolts right off at the drop outs.

This is the only stamp I could find "71 21" on the left side of the seat tube lug. but there was a embossed number on the bottom bracket "848"

Thank you for your time and consideration reading this.

Yes a bit I have so far cleaned all the chrome the best I can for the moment.
I'm currently debating whether to get it Power coated($150 approx) or spray it myself ($????). The green paint contains quite a lot of lead, so no more using the wire wheel. I've also tried some paint stripper on but I need to use a high Pressure water blaster (garden hose just won't cut it).

I also plan on replacing all the hardware I can with High gloss Marine grade stainless steel.
Plus I still need to source Fenders, tail light, leather seat/matching grips, maybe a rear luggage rack and kickstand.

So all up I have done some work but not a lot of real progress :( .

I think I would wet sand it with a shop-vac running to collect the dust, prime & paint. Once the orig. paint is locked under there wont ever be any problem. The powder coats always impress me, but I cant justify the cost for me, and can always repaint to another color or touch up easily.
I like the SS idea too, and save any I find or can salvage to use where I can.
