The Hawthorne my neighbor gave to me the other day, the fenders will clean up nice and it does have a cool shifter, and the road bike came from a barn, The only thing I can make out is "Tour De Britain" on the downtube, the rear wheel looks to have been changed, and the seat .....well I won't go there

Yea the road bike looks pretty good, interested to know the parts. I know Campy did the wingnuts on there hubs. I dont think Campy ever made brakes like that though. Nice lugs, fancy dropouts. Pretty cool.

I didn't even see the wing nuts. Huret made wing nuts like that, and I think there were Japanese and British companies making them, too. If you want to part it out (or sell the whole thing), I may be interested.

Ok looked at it again briefly this morning, rear brake is a Balilla,GB stem,Suntour 7GT derailer, but I really want to know what the frame is before I do anything and as far as "tour de britain" I looked again its "tour of britain" ( Clancy you might be right)

I am guessing this is still a long shot. Those rear dropouts don't look to high end. My suggestion would be to clean it up and take some nice pics. Then post over on the Classic and Vintage section at bikeforums.net.

Do you see "Jack Taylor" anywhere on the frame? Or is there a head badge?

Found on Balilla brakes
"Balilla was a top tier brake set in he 30s, 40s and 50s. By the 60s and 70s rolled around they pretty much copied other brakes and went the cheap route. If the logo is in block letters, it is newer than if the logo is in script letters."

I have a Centurion that looks like that..same style lugs ..I cant get to see the read drop outs on mine to see if they look the same....But the top tube cable mounts are the same style and the paint all most looks similar ..on the seat tube..? I will try to take a picture of mine soon..Jay

cool finds! looking at that frame makes me think its british (that and the tour de britian comment posted earlier) and that kinda reminds me of the chainring on my royce union 3speed, just with a smaller rind added to mine. royce union road bike?
