I've been working on this elderly lady in my 'hood for a couple or three weeks about acquiring this bike....I even took her some flowers!
I've been aware of it for like seven years.
I would drive by it everyday.
It would disappear into foliage in the spring, then reappear in the Fall.
Since I started reading this forum, I knew I had to do something about it and not let it get away...like the Ghia a block away [kicks self again].

It was Mrs. Tip's husband's.
He used to ride it all over town, but he died in 1972.
I think it's possible that's it's been sitting in this spot ever since.

I sent my knowledgeable friend a pic and he estimates it to be a '34-'38.
Any Western Flyer gurus here?

The fenders are not as perfect as I originally thought, but that friend has an English wheel...not bad though.
Not sure what to do right now.
Fresh tires and get it functioning first.
Roll it rusty...maybe clear-coat the tetanus in.
I don't want stock, but I won't hack on it either.

I didn't get it for free, but the deal was very fair...nevermind what my wifee thought.
Mrs. Tips clearly has some sentimental attachment to it.
I told her I'd give it a good home.

I'm pretty stoked here!
I welcome all input!

Congrats on the bike. Just one word of advice when it comes to skip tooth chains. Be careful when removing them because they are not cheap to replace. I am actually looking for one right now but don't feel like paying 50-60 bucks for one. I own several skip tooth bikes and glad to see another one.

very cool.

You can turn those handle bars upside down and sell them on craigslist as major taylors, some hipster will eat that up.

Hint, hint?
Not following you.

I'd already planned on media blasting and re-painting, or whatever, then re-upholster...or talk to my bud who's into working with leather.
It stays with the bike, I'm thinkin'.

look on the bottom of thebb, there may be a date on it. yeah you can be stoked on this, should clean up ok.

I've had no success with a Google search so far.

I like what the PB Blaster did to the area.
I may rub the whole bike down with it. :p

Oi!...my registration has failed at The CABE...just like I had trouble getting in here.
I need to stop registering on forums from work.

I've e-mailed Scott.
Anybody have any connections over there.

I'm seriously thinking of rubbing this thing down with the PB Blaster.
...unless somebody can give me a reason it would be a horrible idea.

I ain't skeert of future people.

From what I've gathered on The CABE is that the down tube off the head on a Western Flyer is straight (like mine) on '39 and down...curvee on '40 and up.

But they have Phasers...those sting

By the way...Where can i get some PB blaster...ive honestly never seen it
It's sold at most auto parts stores...at least down here.
WAY mo' better that WD-40 for rust penetration.

...on a side note...
This is where I got my name it turned out.
A friend of mine drove my hot rod Bug and he referred to it a "little blaster"...meaning it ran strong.
Just after that I saw a stack of B'laster stickers on the counter of a Pep Boys.
I didn't know what it meant...until a couple years later.
I thought it was a band.
The sticker is still on my back window of my Bug....promoting some product I hadn't heard of.
I had been trying to come up with a name for this VW forum I wanted to join and BLASTER stuck.
Now I'm BLASTER all over the place..VWs, skateboards and now bikes!
