I've been trying all day to fit a 7 speed rim on the back of my schwinn. however the hub is wayyyy to wide for the frame. does anyone know how to fix this problem? It's like I have to spread out the stays, but is that possible?

i managed to spread the rear stays on my schwinn(1970s) and fitted a 9sp mtb wheel as the coaster wheel was kaput
i used nothing more than a trolley jack and did a bit at a time and the wheel stayed central

thanks for the input! I have a 5 speed rear laying around so I'm going to try that out.

I normally use a scissor jack like you'd use on your car and place it between the stays, give her a few cranks, then test fit your new wheel. If you go too far just lay it down and press it back together GENTLY with your foot.
