Back to your comment about spraying some pearl over the bare metal. I think that could be cool. I have an old Diamonback mountain bike that was painted white, then smoked with a sooty acetylene torch to put a layer of soot over the whole frame. Then it was sealed with clear mixed with magenta pearl. The pearl is a cool surprise when someone notices the paint job and then looks a little closer.
As far as learning to pinstripe, well I've tried it and failed miserably. I find it a lot easier to stripe on a flat surface than a round tube. Pinstripers are just amazing, and I hold their art in high regard. You might be able to catch a striper at a hot rod show that's already doing some work and get them to add a few inexpensive lines to your frame. Catch them before they clean their brushes and just go with the colors that they are already using, and maybe they'll go easy on you.
