Hey guys. I'm in. i've been working on this one for about two weeks but haven't had the chance to borrow a computer to upload the pics. I'm not finished with it yet but it's close. . .i'm just haveing to backtrack and get all the build pics on here so don't be hatin'! I started out with a brush painted early 50s Schwinn Hornet i got for free from my local bike shop. I wanted to do a military themed bike but i noticed more of those were popping up so i decided to go the police route with it.

May 7th - This is what i started with. . . .

I got this schwinn Twinn a few weeks back to use for parts. . . i.e. wheels, grips, and tires.

It had to have the heavy duty spokes.

This is it after chemical stripping with the tandem wheels and the original seat, bars, crank, guard, and fork. I didn't like the type of truss rods Schwinn used on this model though.

Time to prime!

I had an old girls' Elgin laying out that had a good pre war truss rod fork on it that came with this person's majestic which was the inspiration of the police bike build. it fit perfectly so i left it on there.

To be a police bike it had to be black, of course. I used some cheap krylon because i plan to do some wet sanding to age it a little.

Time to start the tedious reassemly. . . .

Ran out of black paint and can't finish the fork till i get some more. I found some old glass lense trailer lights at the flea market. There were originally three on the metal bar but i cut one off to see what it would look like. This is just a mockup, i won't be using the metal piece.

I'm liking how it looks except for the chain guard and the sprocket. I might change them later on.

Thought i'd give the old elgin truss rods a new coat of white.. . primed now waiting. . .

This is my latest flea market find. . .an old 60s-70s extra-long flashlight. I thought it would make a good accessory, just have to find a place to put it.

Trusses painted and flashlight on.

Snagged this on ebay. Don't know if i'll put a 3-speed on it yet but i definitely wanted the shifter on it.

Shifter and siren installed. I thought i'd see how this chainguard looks. i like it much better!

My donor bike for the chainguard. I'll be using the rack too.

Gotta love it!

Here's the plan with the trailer lights . . i'll drill a hole underneath the bulb hole to mount them to the handlebars so i can use the buld hole to mount some 1/18 scale leds later on. I'm using brake arm clamps to mount them on the bars for now until i can go to lowes and get some clamps with rubber backing.

I found an old flashlight clamp for handlebars and used it to mount the accessory light on the fork. the flashlight unscrews in the middle of the shaft if you want a regular size light, so i downsized it to fit the fork.

I got a few of these on my trip to lowes. I'm gonna try to use one as a taillight in the rear rack.

And here's the rear rack primed, painted and installed.

The rack with the led snuggled in.

Here are the trailer lights properly mounted on the newer bars with white schwinn twinn grips. i still need to change the neck out because of a hairline crack.

Here with the newly painted chainguard next to my buzz buggy.

Decided to add some more white and two-toned the chainguard. i'm gonna swing by the neighborhood decal shop to see if i can get some police decals made soon! I might paint the top of the rack white too. . . dunno yet.

Not too much left to do other than decals and maybe adding some more white. . . unless i make any more trips to the flea market!

Awesome stuff. I personally wouldn't go with the rotating blue light. Older cop cars only had a flashing red spot. Those two red trailer lights on the front do the job perfectly. How about a middle white colored section on that lower frame bar? That would nail the "black and white" look more so than the chainguard. My .02 only. :)

well guys, i guess i'm giving up on this one. i'm not liking the police theme. i may go a different route or maybe even use a murray monterey i have to try to have something else before this is over.
