Do you know what year your CWC is?? Looks like mine & it's a 46. Can't wait to see the finished product! 8)

Re: no name yet, CWC w/ big and littles, name input needed

Thanks a lot guys for the great comments :D

Hounddog: 60s Gassers are the best, your pics and bike are awesome!
Fordsnake: Lot to love about the CWC shape, last year it was Spaceliners :D
Like yours alot  of your tank
TM: Glad the stance looks tough, My horse will have a name soon

XCruiser: Though I'd like to see what you could do with a Boa-g, I can't feel guilty
KnH: Interesting name, think "pilot" is going to be in there
Imagearchy: First frame was the first Schwinn Cantilever I bought, nice curves
The '64 Typhoon will be probably going to together next, Had to change it up from this
16May11101-1.jpg

Sounds like you had some cool rides! Better to have had them, then never have them at all:lol:

SKipton: Glad you like it, I'm back in the Fat Tire Wars
Think I'm going with JUP, all I needed was one other vote
This bike is Jacked Up in a lot of ways I'm finding out

OUB: Looking forward to seeing how you put yours together :D
Nick: Big and Littles :D , Relearning my bare metal skills, lots of work ahead
N8; Man, Been there with student loans, now paid off with extra money for bikes, Its worth it!

Pick: Glad you like the tire combo, the front is for running MTBs fast on pavement :D
Not sure how the seat is going to pan out yet but glad you like it so far (not Jacked Up  )
Found C01985 on the frame today but need to look it up
It was advertised as Prewar (which one, I'm not sure)
Looking forward to seeing how you put your CWC together

Here is another angle from yesterday's quick mockup, Rear Tire looks Fat :D

Will split these posts up, They get wordy

Re: no name yet, CWC w/ big and littles, name input needed

Alright so I played my "easy card" but paid for it
I've got access to a sand blaster lately so used that, then repaired it and again, and again

So used some 3M dics too. It's really Pitted!!! Believe the paint was sprayed over the rust
Got a lot of work to do but am going to stick this frame.
Going to learn how to make the welds look/work better, no mods, just repair
Here is every step of how rough this thing is
IMG_6176II.jpg

So I think the gun bluing will help to visually even out the many pits (I hope)
It's going to be a rat rod either way :D
But the frame looks better without the paint
IMG_6174II.jpg

It's going to be a lot of work, but I'm going to "invest" in this one because I think it could be cool
At least everything came apart pretty easy and the rear adjusters are good

Will start on the white Chukkers this weekend, really like the look of Ratina's CWC but didn't want to copy
This is the closest I wanted to get, with a twist :D Should actually make the tires a little less wide
Not much room left Skipton

The badge is brass, not sure if it's actual patina but pretty cool
IMG_6175II.jpg

So I better GTB as Jake says, Thanks for looking and all the support, I need it!
Steve

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, Frame work ahead

I wouldn't worry too much about pits on the frame, that just gives it character! But, what do I know, I love pits, dents, rust & battle scars!

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, Frame work ahead

Man this bike looks tuff!! I'm waiting to see what else you do so...GTB!! Peace

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, Frame work ahead

Great progress!  I have about 10 hours into my frame and 9 of those are sanding (mostly by hand)

Looks great bare metal 8)

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, Frame work ahead

Was putting off the frame for a bit and checked out the seat for anything usable
It's so funny and odd looking I almost like it
CWCEBay5II.jpg

Tore it down with only a few issues, will have to cut the clamp to post bolt
IMG_6179II.jpg

The main mounting pan is shot but could use the other, maybe just the parts :|
Keep thinking of a pan seat like this one (with springs)
Chromeseatpan.jpg

Or if I get ambitious pounding something out, really would like to do that (good therapy  )

Thankfully there is an appropriately timed swap meet tomorrow at one of the best shops in the cites, 1on1. They are selling off their their parts/bikes from the basement
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53956
Will be looking for lights for this bike and my FIL's
Hope I don't bring another bike home
Thanks for looking
Steve

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, Seat parts

Go with the chrome nanner pan!

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, Seat parts

Thanks for the support Skipton :D
Pick: Pit Wisdom and I'll take it  . Will live with pits but the welds need refining
Jake: Thanks for the "tough" comment, was hoping it would look that way to others
Got To Building :D (see below)
Nick: Man, that's tough work for 10 hours. It came out cool. Thanks for your tough comment
Kingfish: Your Avatar always cracks me up   Thanks for the comment
See if you like below (bird in the hand..)
Thanks Mr. Kool! I have so many Velo Orange handle bars
http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/ ... ebars.html
Think those were Left Bank, did a comp but can't find it right now
Reasonably priced, nice shapes, and good quality aluminum bars (see below)
XCruiser: I'll get there, I'll get there  Frame almost looks blue from the sky in the window

Alright, so I tried a few more things, not final
Got the seat apart and kinda like the way it looks
Unbolted the front spring and it bolts on (needs some help) to the seat post clamp turned 180
Lot more to do and maybe a thinner and longer pan

So mocked it up and I've been looking for a certain style
Still thinking maybe a set of twin post round drag bars mounted on a plate with the truss rods
Until that fantasy happens...
What do you think of the turned around stem and the truss rod/handlebar curves :?:
Schwinn Breeze stem (same as fork) and VO Montmartre (I think)

IMG_6183III.jpg

They could be a little shorter in the grip
Put the same VO Belleville back on but didn't look right, too flat
Never been partial to turned around stems :|
It's like someone would say "Hey, you put those on backwards"
Different "swing" too

Probably could actually ride it this way
Thanks for looking
Steve

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, Next mock up, need input

Thought I'd try to see what it looks like with the Chukkers and Headlight
IMG_6192III-1.jpg

Looking at it again, I might need to de-white those rims, was the backup plan

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, Next mock up, need input

I like the seat choice, it flow with the frame well.
Light is cool too.
Those rims make it look like whitewalls, which may be cool. The pic is smaller so hard to say.

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, Next mock up, need input

Kingfish: Thanks for the nod on the seat, Will try to fix the ww picture

So thinking that the stem backwards gives an extra (3rd) curve backward
Want to make a plate to bolt the bars (and the truss rods) to the fork without a stem
Like the look but the execution of the plate will be tricky

IMG_6218II.jpg

What do your think? Thanks for looking
Steve

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, stemless?

^^^^^^^^^^^

That looks like the ticket! :D Fits the bike perfectly

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, stemless?

Thanks for the input guys.
The deafening silence with the reversed stem said it all
Glad I found a good alternative
Nick: Thanks for the nod of approval
Houndog: Glad you like it too
Mr Kool: That's an interesting idea, thanks for showing me.
Didn't even know they existed, what was the stem from?
How do the handlebars work with that?
And your welcome :D

Been thinking about fish-mouthing an aluminum threadless stem
and put a bolt directly through the fork
Shold be able to do without wrecking the threads
Kinda like the positon of the handlebars in relation to the end of the trus bars in the pic
Since you guys do too, I need to shoot for that
Thanks for looking
Steve

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, stemless?

There is so much going on with your bike, that I didn't even notice the reversed stem earlier.
I actually like the way teh lines flowed when you had it on.
