a rat is using whatever you can find to put to use on whatever you are building - whether it be a bicycle, motorcycle, auto.
a custom is basically bolting on ready made parts to get a custom look.

i was just wondering, my rats look alot more "ratty" than most of the bikes i see bein called rat rods, maybe i need to kick it up a notch and make em a lil more purdy

To me:
KUSTOM, is about style and flow.
RAT is bare bones, in your face, use what you got...
One of these days, im gonna build a "Kustom- with a K" cruiser that looks like something winfield, Puhl, the alexanders, or starbird would have built in the sixties... just you wait...
