So I am widening my rear stays so I can put on a wider rim and tire. As you can see I have widened one side of the frame already. My question is, I have about and 1/8" gap I need to fill. I have cut the piece that I need to fill the gap. I was wondering If a simple butt weld will be strong enough to carry a 200 pound person? Is there something I can do to strengthen that area so it can hold my weight? I have a Tig welder if that makes a difference.

If it was mine, I would insert a short piece of rod or tubing that was the same O.D. as the frames I.D. (could always be turned down to fit perfectly) and then weld it all up. Basically making a lug to reinforce that area. I'm no expert though.
