Hey Pick, I feel honored that you'd "steal" my idea. I weighed both the wheels together (without tires) and they were about 6lbs. That makes them about .5 lbs lighter than the 26" aluminum wheels I had on first (which was a pleasant surprise). The wheels definitely give it a different look. Spaceliner, Of Course! Is there any other? :lol:
Hey Deorman, You're right that swapping tires would bring down the weight. I really like the Conti Contacts (28mm up front) but they are heavy (550g). Surprisingly the Resist Nomad 45mm is only 590g. I could put on a set of serious road bike tires front and rear and drop about a pound. The Contacts are so bulletproof that I will keep them on, especially if I want to SPEED. A 32mm Conti would probably roll much easier than the Resist. The Resist is a bike polo tire so it's not design for low rolling resistance. Saying that, it does roll pretty good though.
I'll have to start out slower to not blow out my knees but once at speed, rolling resistance and air resistance is key. The rolling resistance of the Contis are excellent. I have 28mm on the front and back of my road bike and have had them up to 44mph downhill with a large measure of confidence. I guess I'll have to lose some weight for the air resistance criteria :lol:
I been thinking that I could try the 13 gear in the back...

Now I have to use the new tool I bought to pull off the cranks and tighten up everything.
I'm taking off work Friday so hopefully I'll have some speed pics by this weekend.

This is driving me nuts!

I just loctited the whole BB assembly after it worked it's way loose.
Directions say cure time is 24 hours!!!
I've had Loctite not work very well in the past if you rush it though.
I guess I'll have to take one of my other bikes to the beach and relax.
The heat index is 107F today.
Almost too hot to do much else.
I can't complain though, I can't ride my bike to the beach AND go swimming when it's -20F :lol:

Actual temp here was 103 here, don't even want to know what the heat index is. Humidity must be at least 80%. Lookin Great! 8)

Today was a much nicer than yesterday.

I got my new aluminum stem and clamp installed.
I'm trying to make it more bullet proof than the old style seat clamps.
In the pic, the most left is the mtn bike aluminum kind you can find for cheap in the used parts section.
It's 2 pieces, a cast piece pressed into a tube.
I cut one out of the tube and had it welded to some aluminum bar stock.
The middle one is the new one.
The most right one is the old style seat clamp on some aluminum bar stock.
The new one is a little heavier but I plan to cut it to length and rifle drill it with a 1/2" drill.
I hope it lightens up because overall I'm about 1.5 heavier than it was originally (29 lbs).
I replaced the seat post clamp bolt too.
I've been wanting to find out how fast I could ride the 'Liner.
So I shook it out a bit and headed to a stretch of bike path that goes NW-SE.
The wind was coming out of the Northwest at ~15mph.
I could sure tell the difference.
Max speeds:
Run1(into the wind) => 23.4 mph
Run2(with the wind) => 27.2 mph
Run3(into the wind) => 22.9 mph (with camera in hand)
Run4(with the wind) => 26.3mph (with camera in hand)
Run4
So averaged, it was 25.3 to 24.7 mph max.
Not too bad.
I haven't felt my best lately so I'm hoping there's room for improvement.
I not sure when, but I want to change the back tire out for the 32mm Conti, 13 gear in the back, and trim/drill the seat post.
With some better health, improved strength,a slight better rolling and lighter bike, I'll shoot for 27mph average.
We'll see...

Now I'm going to take a nice relaxing ride to the beach.

I'm kinda looking forward to building that one the way I had this one earlier.
HRLiner needs at least a bit more, maybe a cool head badge or some pinstriping.

I was going to go on first long ride on it today.
Didn't get very far.
I stopped to take a picture on this really cool suspension bridge (Martin Sabo) that was made only for peds and bikes.
I kept looking up to get a shot so I set it up on the single suspension beam.
As I was trying to get a pic, I stepped in broken glass from a beer bottle.
It was right on the west lane of the bike path.
I've got nothing against people drinking beer out of a bottle but I wish they wouldn't enjoy
busting them on bike paths :x
After a few pics I took the "Liner off the beam and set it down carefully only to hear "Pfffffft".
Instant Walk Mode
Front tire dead.
Luckily I wasn't too far away so I walked home in shame.
So sad to see my bike this way.
This one was how I felt when I took a shade break.
I had to make the best of the situation and snap one at the Mosiac of the Americas.
Luckily I have more long stem tubes but I didn't go back out.
I was supposed to be meeting colleague so I took the GTO.
I'm surprised the Conti let me down (first flat in several hundred miles with these type of tires)
I'll check it good for shards and get it back on the road.
I only have to work 4 days next week then I'm off again for 9 days.
I'll plan my next trip then.
And concentrate more on the road than the perfect angle :lol:

I'm guessing double the weight and half the elasticity of most frames you'd find attached to that tire. :lol: Don't forget to check the rim itself, rim strip and spoke nipples for burrs or what have you. :wink:

Yeah this bike is relatively heavy (29 lbs) compared to my road bike (aluminum frame and carbon fork at 20lbs- 28mmConti) and my single speed (aluminum frame & fork, 18 lbs – 32mmConti).
I’ll have to check it for “the snake bite” pinch flat. I had just pumped it up to 90 psi so that should have been okay. Plus, I was setting the bike down versus riding off curbs (which I do sometimes on the other bikes). If I see a snake bite, I’m going to mount the 35mm Resist tire in the front. Then It would only be Big and less Big vs Big and Little), lol.
Thanks for a good reminder to look again at those tube popping issues.
I still have to swap out to the skinny tires for the next speed runs so better to find the real issue.

Awesome! This is a true Hot Rod bike. I love it. The polished deep V rims with the big and little tire combination is perfect.

Lesson learned about deep Vs. You must use rim strip tape. It must be thick enough to be structural.
I normally hate rim strip tape. It's expensive, it uses adhesives, it's hard to get off, and the worst is that
you have to argue with the bike shop person: "No it's too wide, it won't work" "oh yes it will..." Arggg!
But rubber strips won't hold the pressure. The Deep V is like 2 rims, One like normal and one in deep.
(Sorry about the bad pic)
The spoke nipple goes completely through the "upper" rim and tightens against the "lower" rim.
So there is a big hole in the "upper" rim where there is normally a spoke nipple head.
The tube pushed the rubber rim strip inside (in between the 2 "rims") and popped.
The the tube looked like it was ready to blow in about 12 spots. Oops.
Got some 13 mm rim strip tape and installed it (without any drama).
Live and learn.
I need to do the same to on the back but at 60 psi versus 90 psi in front,
the rear tube may have not been over stressed. I'll carefully check it.
I'm gonna hook up the 32mm Conti in the back with the smaller gear.
I'm blasting around on my other bike to get some better strength.
A 13 tooth in the rear is going to be brutal, but fast (not quick).
I eventually will put the 45mm tire back on along with the Hipster bars but
after I see how fast I can get this thing (hopefully without blowing out my knees :lol: )

Not a big fan of tape either. Ritchie makes stiff plastic strips that work on double wall MTB rims, I don't know if they would handle hi-pressure road tires or not.
