So I am widening my rear stays so I can put on a wider rim and tire. As you can see I have widened one side of the frame already. My question is, I have about and 1/8" gap I need to fill. I have cut the piece that I need to fill the gap. I was wondering If a simple butt weld will be strong enough to carry a 200 pound person? Is there something I can do to strengthen that area so it can hold my weight? I have a Tig welder if that makes a difference.

Hey there.I think i would get 2 small peices of rod and make plugs. It would also be much easier to weld.Just my 2cents.

I don't weld but everybody I have seen usually sleaves a joint like that. find a smaller piece to go inside.
