Front bearings and such..

Old bike. Packed the bearings. They still turn ruff. What should a non wore out bearing look like? Or could the cup they sit in be wore out? Just wondering.

are schwinn front hubs only compatible with schwinn axles, bearings, cones and such? I had a bent axle and replaced the whole set up from an older wheelset, and it doesnt seem like it fits properly. I've got it tightened down, and the cones keep loosening up after a ride. Any suggestions. Anyone have a complete schwinn front axle set up they want to part with?
