I did a resto on this 1986 Ascent a few weeks back.

2012 ResponseXE from Dicks Sporting Goods. Daily rider since new. Really a good bike.....except.
This bike has taught me to never buy disc brakes again.

I built it up over the course of a few years.
Never really felt ‘right’ to me.
So, I moved it on down the road.

Learned a LOT by wrenching on it though, so in the end it was a good bike
I think I have an old build thread on here called ‘Amsterback’ (was trying to combine the cruiser comfort of an Electra Amsterdam and a Diamondback). Sold it as pictured, but it went through a few iterations, like most of my builds

Looks like you were on the leading edge of a trend. I'm seeing all kinds of 1x7 and 1x8 retro MTB builds on other forums. Seems like a great way to get the old frames, that aren't exactly confidence inspiring on the trails any more, some love.
Did you find troubles with the single ring crank throwing the chain? I wanna do one, and no chain retainer keeps it so much cleaner.
