Coaster brake takes two turns!

When using my coaster brake, I have to pedal backwards almost two full turns before the brake will apply. Anyone know why and how I can fix it? Thanks in advance.

What coaster brake hub is it. Post a picture too. The Bendix red band and newer hubs are not to hard to take apart.

No idea on what brand it is. It's on an early 80's Murray bmx bike that I've had since new and fixing it up for my son.

When was the last time is was serviced (taken apart cleaned and re-lubed)? There is no point in speculation until that is done. It cures about 95% of problems.

You should be able to rebuild that pretty easy. Here is a good write up for rebuilding the hub. Makes it easy. http://www.troubleshooters.com/bicycles ... erhaul.htm

The name and model of the hub will be on the brake arm.

So after following the steps for pulling it apart and cleaning and relubing, it works properly several times then takes a full turn or more then works properly. Only does it every so often. All the parts looked fine. Seems tight enough but not too tight. No play in the hub.

Hmmmmm. What make is it? Maybe the clutch spring is slightly bent.

Two turns? The drivers are designed for about 1/2 turn only.
