Found out about this ride right before going via a text, San Diego's first CicloVia event where they close off 5+ miles of city streets to cars(short of a few controlled intersections). This event is called CicLAVia in LA and there's similar in other cities, a real good time if you see one coming to an area close to yours.

For a first time event the crowd was at least the normal TDF size and the event route overlapped much of the TDF route thru North and South Park sections of San Diego. Highly recommended, lots of cruisers, homemade stretch cruisers, some tall bikes and boneshakers, plus the normal road and mtbs, skateboarders, skaters, and peds.

Borrowed some videos that someone else took

There are some pictures on this facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/events/286032434869963/

I'm working on a video that I shot. I actually ended up on the front page of the newspaper (see link above) but you can't see my bike. Nick Evans is the featured rider on his tall bike. That guy in the green egg kept going back and forth. It was a great time although it was a bit tough to keep our group together with people stopping at various places.

We have a night ride this Friday which is always fun.

Good Times Nick! The route had a few hills that alot of people had to push their bikes up. That should be addressed for future events.I was told that the original route was to be held around Petco Park. That area is much more level.

Haha, I was on my singlespeed mountain bike and dropped everyone in front of me on the way up but yeah on a cruiser( or the guy on a boneshaker I saw) that series of hills coming back up from Logan Heights would be tough. The Tour De Fat route takes a right turn before those hills (maybe somewhere around A or C St IIRC) and heads back to Golden Hill, a much better route for fat tires not totally flat but close enough.

I'm going to miss the Tour De Fat. Was looking forward to it but will be out of town camping. At least it's for a good reason and I'll be riding my Basman all weekend there.
